Air/Fuel Gauge

Here's the deal, Installed a Voltmeter and Air/Fuel ratio gauge in my '99 Cavi. Got power to both, voltmeter works great and the Air/Fuel gauge has power. Looking through the Hanes manual and they don't seem to want to tell me exactly which wire I need to connect the signal(purple) wire to. I can only see one purple wire connected to the computer. Even had a friend that does allot of work on cars, working with me and he couldn't tell either. What wire is connected to the O2 Sensor to connect this too? Any one that has done this, which wire please? Thanks

The purple wire coming off the header.

I would be more than happy to do that but it says to connect the wire closer to the computer. Do you have one connected that way? Just want to make sure. Thanks

You will hook into the high side of the O2 sensor . But if you are going to connect closer to the computer then you are going to find out there are a lot of wires colored the same that far into the harness .

Best bet is to go to the dealership and ask them which connector and pinout on the PCM is for the signal from the O2 sensor . Because a Haynes or Chiltons is crap about not giving any pinouts on the electrical .

On a 2000 Cavalier 2200 PCM the pinout is pin22 on the black connector . On the 2.4 of the same year it is the same pinout and connector color .

I just followed the wire from the sensor up to the computer and did it that way, there are a couple of purple wires, but just follow it as close as possible and you should narrow your choices down

The only reason I could see why they say to put it close to the computer is so that you dont have so much wire resistence. But honestly, it would only be like 0.0002 ohms anyways.

If you find your sensor on the header, jsut follow it back to behind where it plugs in and splice it there, that way, if you need to replace the sensor, you dont need to re-splice the connection. Thats the only other reason I can figure they would tell you to put it close to the computer.

That's If you have a 2.4. I hate when people don't fill anything out in their profiles.
