For those of you who did the classic peeling off the rubber coating on the climate control knobs to make them clear... what did you use to tint them if you decided to color them. I was thinking about taking the rubber coating off of the knobs too and what to tint them green to match the green neon lighting I have in the interior of my Sunfire. What would be a good way to tint the clear plastic knobs once I take the rubber off, that won't fade, or rub off on my fingers every time I turn on my AC? I want it to have a translucent green tint to it that would have a cool green glow when it's lit up.
this has been brought up before. i'm sure a search would have got you your answer. from what i remember someone had said stain glass spray paint. you can supposedly get it at wal-mart or any hobby/craft store. but i have yet to find any.

What you know about Street Racing anyways? Only what Fast & Furious taught us....
SO EVERYTHING!
i took a red sharpe and colored the back of the knob and the reflector thingy behind the knobs. you can also get modle paint "candy" coat or krylon stained paint should work too.
Yea I used translucent hobby paint and only painted the back side of the knob.
Do they glow in the color you chose pretty good? Any pics by any chance?
i went to a craft store and bought a bottle of glass stain and just painted them, they look real nice in the day, but when the lights shine thru they kinda lose the efftect. mine are yellow and the stain isnt very thick so it may just be that the lights r too bright, but still im satisfied with the way they came out
Ok here's another question. I did a search on this and read somewhere that you can heat up the knobs to make it eaiser to take the rubber coating off without damaging them incase you ever decided to change it back to the way it was. How do you heat the knobs to take the coating off?
i actually painted the back of the with stainglass paint and then the front of them gunmetal, so the little indicator is the only part that lights up and it looks different
Use a Hair Dryer...i held them up with a pair of needle nose pliers and left in on there until i saw the black rubber kinda peel back a little...i sugg. doin LED's behind the there...i think it looks really cheasy when they are painted...cuz when they are off durin the day...the look like this
at night they look like this
...
NVr mnd...i cant find the pic =(

How do you do the LED's? Just drill holes right behind the knobs and put LED's in em' or what?

I see something missing and I want to make sure it was intintional or if it was because you changed the LEDs.
Where are the symbols for the control head (blower speeds, where the air comes out, what temp you have selected)????
i have a carbon fiber overlay
Alright. Wasn't gonna try it if it didn't light up everywhere.
Just so I know what I'm getting into, I want to make sure I understand correctly.
Take the dash apart.
Pull the cover off the controller.
Pull the bulb.
Slide in new bulb.
No soldering?????
there are 2 bulbs(a pain the the ass to get out) they will break and just take a needle nose pliers to the inner wiring of it and pull. Then slide in the leds...done
soo does the part that you turn light up the color if you paint the whole back or does it not glow as much?
