Tach install...

Ok tonight i spent a good 4 hrs at the shop messing around trying to hook up my tach and a/f guage. I have my autometer tach adaptor all wired up awaiting me to hook the green wire to the grey. No with both of the guages, you need to get power from an key igntion wire that turns on when the key goes on blah blah blah.... I am effen stumped here on what the hell to tap into. I was out there with the crew Ryan, adam, and chris and i was looking at house chris ran the power for his guages. He has a little thing called " add a fuse" which is a little black plug that plugs into the fuse board and has 2 ports for fuses and a red wire to power the guages. We cannot find one like it anymore. I don't want to cut into the ign. fuse anywhere. Any help?

What I would do is take a "tap" splice and hook it up to your ignition wire. This will allow you to tap your tach wire into your ignition wire without any extra work. I would definitely tap into the ignition wire though because that's just the simplest way to do it. I think on GM's the wire is commonly the brown wire coming down your steering column. The best thing to do is to get a voltage tester and test to see which wires come on only with the ignition on. You can probably also look up an ignition wiring diagram here somewhere online, or I'm sure someone else might chime in on this topic and tell you exactly which wire is your ignition wire.

Your ignition wire is already fused and adding something as small as a tach to your ignition wire won't harm anything. So there shouldn't be any need for adding a fuse before the wire that will go to your tach. Now just get some balls behind that radiator and get some good use out of that new tach.
