In my car (2001 Cavalier, base) I have a mild red accent theme going. And with my car not having a tach and all, I was thinking if I could just buy an instrument cluster out of a newer Sunfire that has a tach, install it, and then have a tach as well as red backlighting. Question: Odometer...would I have to find one that had the same amount of miles on it? Or doesn't that matter because its digital and maybe the miles is stored in the computer? And is the tach just plug and play in order for it to work, or is there additional work involved in order for the tach to work.
If anyone can help me out...that would be great. Thanks
PS...I did try searching first.
once you plug in the cluster.... it will turn on and make a buzzing sound and show the old cars miles.... then it will go off. start you car and your miles will show up. I did this swap a few months ago
oh i also didn't have tach before the swap and now i do, and it works. exactly plug and play
Sweet...Thanks a bunch guys...now I gotta start lookin around for a Sunfire cluster...Just make sure its a 2k+ right?
Friends a question, what would be the procedure to change the cluster?
I know that will need to take off the upper part of cluster panel (same procedure to change the stereo head unit), but what things will I need to take in account to do it easily? specific bolt locations? or tabs? etc.... Pics and comments are welcome.

ELIOT. Now.....boosted.
the hardest bolts to get too were the bolt located in the glove box that are gold. they were hard just because of the location. and the angel you have to get them.
anyone ever done this on a 95-99?
