I bought a replacement one (the fuse is good so i figured it was the socket) so how the heck do you get out the old socket??? the new one screws on it looks like. Thank-you

There was just a thread on this in Interior I believe. You have to take the panel off, and then there should be two prongs on the backside that you have to press in with a small flathead screwdriver, or something similar. Then it'll come out a little. you may have to push them in again when you have it about halfway out to clear the plastic fully.
At least that was what the other thread said...the 95-99's just screwed on, like your replacement will. Either that, or just cut out the old one with some sharp object since you have a new one lol. (that's kinda a last resort, I think).
(my bad...we're already IN interior lol. I hate getting lost...)
Yeah...take a look at item 1C in the FAQ at the top of this forum and it will give you a link to Team Forward Motion to take out the dash pad and all then you can get access to the panel that has the lighter in it.
It's very precise too since my entire interior is laying in my house right now so it works!
Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?
When I was painting my bezel I couldn't figure out how to get the lighter out either. I used small screw drivers and popped those little tabs, but it just wouldn't budge at all. I gave up with it and taped over it, LOL
i got it out.... wasn't to hard once i got the dash off, just used tiny plilars and got those tabs outta the way. Then i go buy a new one and the stupid thing comes with a device to get your old one off without taking off your dash...thats a pi$$er off'r. haha oh well. Thanks for everyones help!
