Well, yeah, i need some help on my headliner. I have it covered in white marine grade vinyl, not the cheap crap, this stuff is thick.
But anyway, ive used that super 3M adhesive stuff and it does a good job for a while. But after a few days to a week it all sags down again. Ive done it a few times, and believe me, ive gone through a couple cans of it and it still sags after a while.
It especially does it when its really hot out. Any ideas whatsoever... anyone?
Just some ideas... dumb or not, you decide
Loctite. Unless you ever want to get it off again. But that stuff's expensive. Maybe f/g resin? I'm not sure if that would soak into the vinyl though.

the standard stuff will not hold up in the heat. your just wasting time doing it over and over, you need high temp glue. im trying 3m vinyl top spray its supposed to be stronger (it is) and supposed to be high heat. ive only had my headliner in for two weeks now and so far its holding good. but wont be for sure on it till a month or so down the line in hot heat to see if it truly stands up. i got it at car quest that has paint

thats the stuff ive been using, its not good enough for this grade of vinyl
i would go to your local upholstery supply store or any where they sell glue and buy the contact cement that can be use with a glue gun and air compressor that would be the best thing to use (also you can brush it on with paint brush thats the best way cause it can with stand the heat
Have you considered possibly going with a lighter material vinyl if they make it? The glue may not actually be the entire problem, the weight of the vinyl may have something to the effect of causing the problem as well.

Material thickness really shouldnt matter. Marine material isnt even the thickest stuff. The problem isnt the material. The right glue and how you put it on is what it is all about. I would try to find some contact glue from an upholstery shop or material seller. (like keystone bros). If you want to make it last you are going to have to spray it. You can buy a pressure pot system from a place like harbor freight or sears. I bought I pressure pot with a spray gun for like 65 bucks. You can only use it a few times before the lines clog up but it is worth it for sure. when you apply the glue to the headliner, spray a good coat that gets complete coverage ( not to heavy so it piles up but enough cover) and spray the same on the back of the material. Then let that coat dry over night, let it completely dry out. Then about 24hr or so later spray a second light coat, on both the headliner and the back of the material (about half as much as the last coat). wait about 20-30 in until that coat is tacky and apply the material to the headliner. I used this exact procedure on my headliner and it has been in with no flaws for almost a year, and I used arctic vinyl (the thickest shiit). that should work, just try to find the right glue and spray gun. email me with any ?
Sorry here are a couple pics of my headliner.....
