FiberGlassing Sub Box ?!

If I create a frame out of plywood and pulled the fabric over the frame and glassed, would the fabric and glass tick to the frame? Because I wanted to have a light weight box, and didn't want to make a huge box out of MDF. That could be quite heavy. Any who, if it does stick, do you recommend something to put around the plywood so it won't? Any advise, direction is welcomed.

Thanks,

That's pretty much exactly the way it's done. Secure the flannel (your fabric) to the wood with staples or glue, and then lay down a few coats of just fiberglass, followed by some mat/fiberglass.

If you use dark flannel, you can see what you're doing over it much easier (just a tip) And if you really wanna make a light box, don't build a frame out of wood--make a fiberglass MOLD with a wood circle/front to hold your sub. Wood is heavy--fiberglass is light.

Thanks for the information. The way I was going to do it was with circular wood cut outs for the sub, dowl rods. The fabric and resin won't stick to the wood correct? See I want it to form fit the back seat area in the back of the cavalier and the only way I know how to do this is to build the bottom part out of wood. Then glass over it and remove the wood. I want to be able to remove the wood base after it dries. The circular parts for the subs will stay, but the rest of the would be removed.

Thanks,

resin will stick to the wood just fine, it will actually be a stronger bond then the wood most times. if u build the wood frame out of lightweight wood there should be no need to remove it. u should be able to frame it up with under 10 lbs of wood for most boxes, so theres no use of going thru all the hassle just to save 10lbs.
