Rear Deck Lid Rattle
Thursday, August 19, 2004 8:48 AM
So, my rear deck lid is rattling with my STOCK stereo. Certain songs of course, with real clear bass tones are being ruined by this annoying vibrating. It's coming from the area of the center seatbelt anchor and the plastic cover that sits around it. ('04 sunfire)

Any suggestions? I haven't had a chance to look into solving this problem yet. So, I thought I'd ask around see if other people have had this problem and what they might have done to fix it. Thanks! <br>

it's usually pretty overpriced, I think dynomat sells 1x1 sheets for $25

I've got the same rattle. How would dynamat help? It sounds like plastic-on-plastic vibrations. Unless you jammed the stuff in between the two offending pieces??? In which case anything cushion-y in between would probably do the trick.

I had that same problem when I had just the stock stereo. What I did was took a red shop rag that you get from the auto store ,you get like 30 for a few buck's, take the plastic cover up wrap it arround the metal clip in the middle and then put the cap back on. that solved the rattling for me. But now that I'm not stock anymore, 1200W system, I can't hear Any rattle's inside, just my heat sheild under the car which will be fixed this weekend.

I took some of that black door sealant gasket material and used it as an insulation
layer between pieces that contact each other. I don't have a single rattle so i would suggest this as a cheaper alternative.
Good Luck

for something like that the noise is generated by two things vibrating against each other. foam padding works great, door weather stripping works great, any type of cloth placed between the two rattling pieces will work, i wouldnt spend money on dynamat for that type of noise.

WELL before you go and blow to much money dynamat... MAY I suggest a cheaper solution. Peel-N-Seel roof adhesion asphalt sheets. a hell of alot cheaper and it does the exact same job. You can pick it up @ your local home depot, home hardware, lowe's, building castle... etc etc etc. Dynamat in a stock setup is a big investment in money and time...

I found out that My rattle was the rear 6x9 hiting the deck every bump or sub hit.

See if that is your problem, and if it is, find a way that you think will be best to fix it. I just used some super caulk
