Hey everyone... I know everyone posts about this a lot but I have ran into a problem I cant seem to solve.

I started painting my interior today and I went out and got a palm sander(?) and some sanding blocks and sandpaper.. I got medium coarse, medium fine, and all the sanding so far has gone ok.

Then I cleaned the fuse cover as a starter peice to see if I can do it right with alcohol and started priming the sanded parts with duplicolor grey sandable primer. Then after sanding that down with the fine grit and everything is looking good ready for paint. Then I shot Duplicolor auto spray EDSGM398 which is called bright red, and it looks just like the GM color bright red. So I take it and shake it up and spray it and it looks like the right color when it comes out but as it dries it gets a lot darker than the color it came out and should be.

Then to see if maybe clear would bring out the brightness in the paint I sprayed the clear and sure enough it stayed the same color..

I dont think its the paint itself becuase it comes out the right color, and I have heard that duplicolor is a great paint to use on the interior

I am really hoping someone can let me know why this color is drying so dark, I didnt think it would matter that it was gray primer, but maybe its making it darker.. IDK I havent really painted much before and this is importaint to me that this is done right, so maybe someone can shoot me a few tips, because I would really like my interior to match the outside color at least somewhat close. Any help is greatly apprciated. Thanks a lot in advance

maybe the paint thats on your car faded and thats why the paint looks darker

Thats kinda what I thought at first, but I have seen several cavaliers that have the same bright red paint I do, and I have my stock hood and spoiler that have been off the car in storage since 2001 when the car was purchased. Also, this paint is DARK I mean its not shiny or anywhere close to that color. Its a very dark red when this paint dries, I havent seen a Bright red car brand new that was even half as dark as this car.

try white primer not sure if it'll work but it wont hurt

almost sounds like you are puttin it on way to heavy when you use ratle can ya need to put it on medum coats not wet coats
and fyi; do not use rubbin alcohol when preping plastic use a wax and grease remover

welll u said it looks just like your red. if its not the same red exactly, its going to be diffrent. even if it looks close on the can. apparently EDSGM398 is a darker shade of red.

Thats what I had to do with my vents and my shifter button, the paint was color matched with the GM color code but it was way too dark without the primer...

I was gonna say white primer too but I got beat to it.
