From my understanding, you would need an adaptor.

Your cluster didn't come with a tach?
Id swap clusters.

It's easier just to swap clusters, then you dont have an awkward tach sitting somewhere

not necessarily. depending on what year car, it'll screw up the mileage. 98 and 99s with the digital odometer i believe are the only ones.

SO EVERYTHING!
^^^ Yup, thats the big downfall..
i have an 00 with a digi odometer and i switched to a z24 cluster with a tach and it works fine, cept for that darn odo goin dim all the time, but a nice whack to the dash and its fine
some of the tachs will work fine without an adapter...i'd try that first. Hook up the tach, and see if the RPM's are right...if u need an adapter, then the RPM's will only be half of what they should be, like the tach will read around 500 rpm at idle if u need the adapter.
