Screwy tach readings...

..hello, jbo'ers. first time ive posted in this forum...but anyhow, I have an autometer 3 3/8inch tach installed on my 96 2.2l 5 speed (w/OUT the factory tach, way to go, GM)...bought the rksport wiring adapter to go with it...had it "prfoessionally" installed, and it worked great for a couple of months. Just had some tranny work done, and everything (including the tach) was normal, but a week later, for some reason now, the aftermarket tach seems to be getting a bad signal? or something of the like...when it is at idle, the needle s h a k e s, from 800-1200 rpm, and when I am accelerating, it is waaaay behind...the fuel cut now comes at 2500rpm, according the the tach, lol. the engine accelerates normally, and everything is working great..but the tach reading is way off, like the needle is moving waaaay to slow...i can gun it in neutral, and the needle barely sweeps.

any ideas? i am taking it in for some exhaust work soon, just need to know what to tell the techs, as i have nooo idea how to wire anything.

thanks in advance...
