gotta solution, but in desperate need of a pic
Wednesday, October 05, 2005 11:41 PM
could, would, pretty please.......... with cherry on top, somone show me. or send me a pic of a gauge cluster, similar to my 02, (w/ tach)???? i kinda want the pic to depict where my needles sit, while the ignition is shut off...
there is a reset mode that it goes through, and seats them each time you turn your car on, but if i get a pic of where they are at, SHUT OFF, then i can have the thing calibrated correctly

Thank you........

PS..... to answer the age old question, "will my gauge cluster still work if i take it apart on my 2000 + car?"
suposedly i have heard that some people have taken their cluster apart, and removed the needles, and after that they don't work.... so then you would think that i should have been discouraged from doing that..... hell no..... yeah i was slightly intimidated but i did it anyways.... so heres my conclusion
its true, but its not......
there is a FIX to this problem...
FIRST off, i would like to say, if you don't know what your doing, then there is no reason to take the damn thing apart.... i can't stress this enough, but there is no mod that an inexperienced person will be able to do, by taking it apart....

OK..... now for those know what i'm talking about..... you know how it would be really nifty to change the colors of the bulbs, in there??? well, after acuireing quite a few blue LEDS off of ebay, (don't quite know the exact number on the bulb) but if somone wants to know, then just ask, no biggie to look it up if need be.....they are the same ones that would replace your HVAC bulbs....
NEwayz... moving on....
so i took the damn thing apart, figured out whick side of the bulb in the cluster is pos, and neg., then desoldered the bulbs, soldered on the new ones, voila....
a BLUE cluster, BLUE glowing needles, and everything.... looks awsome, wish i could post a pic.....
so in the step of putting eb=verything back together, i genlty, and barely pushed the needles on, everything worked fine, figured aproximatly where they need to be, and pushed them on... all the way....
GUESS what.... dont work....
i also had noticed that on the metal shaft of the needle there was a couple of notches, figured, what do i have to loose if i shaved them down smooth...
after doing so, pushed them back on, THIS time they snaped in... and NOW they work....

so if you still reading this novel/short story (that sux) please give some input on this great discovery....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!°

my buddy will loan out his camera, and i'll take some pics...... if NE! requests it....

so did you HAVE to shave the metal pins on the needles to make it work?? or did that just happen to help
also what are the bulb #s if you dont mind, i'm in the process of making a custom overlay and i already painted my needles with yellow stain glass paint so they will glow yellow, but lights in the cluster would be awesome too
any help u could give would be great

i believe its a # 74 Wedge bulb
here is a link to the ebay site... these are the ones that i actually got, but they looked slightly different.... like where the colored plastic is, they were in clear... but either way, you can get an aproximate idea of what they looked like...
Shaving the little indents on those metal pins was NECESSARY... granted that the needles come out WITH the pins, cuz i had my RPM, that come off without the pin, and it still worked without doing anything.
If you ever pull the needles out, and you see the metal pin, prettty much what i figured out, was that they were getting stuck, so thats why you would need to shave the metal part of the pin smooth.

heres the link to the bulbs

LiquidFireCavy (mdk)<----- one more thing, if you have your needles painted yellow, i dunno how the led's would work on that, but to do this, it is a PITA, but sure does looka awsome... so if you know how to work with circuit boards, go for it...

ALSO, if by any chance NE1 have an aproximate idea, or would there be a write up, of what is the RPM's at certain speeds?
Where does the temp gauge sit at when the car is hot?
