Shift Boot on Auto - ASAP
Thursday, October 06, 2005 12:20 PM
We have the stock piece that covers the auto piece. If we cut the stock piece, how do we attach the shift boot too the piece and cover up the cuts?

Thanks

^^ listening
isnt the stock piece that surrounds the shift knob/stick connected all the way to the window switches? i was thinking about switching the console area around the shifter to a boot and make it look nice and 'manual'

I used an OEM manual boot. There are clips on the bottom of the boot that hold it in place. I removed the console from the car. Then I removed the plastic shift indicator trim (the thin oval plastic piece). The manual boot is a little bit longer than the opening for an automatic so I simply cut the clip that was all the way to the front of the boot off. Now the boot fits fine because the clips hold it in place underneath the console. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. It really does resemble a manual transmission. It took me about five minutes to remove the console, install the boot and re-install the console. Hope this helps. If anyone has any more questions, please feel free to email me any time: j_to_envy@yahoo.com.

yours the sunfire, i think if im correct. for the cavs however theres no plastic shift indicator trim (the thin oval plastic piece). the whole console is one piece, which sucks my best bet is possibly to buy the whole console from a manual cavvy on ebay for a price :-(
unless anyone knows a way around it im all ears

i have to double check mine again later after work, but im sure that the area where it shows the shift labels are also part of the console connected to the area around the window switches. i know the window switch area is separate from the whole console, but i was't aware that the area of the shift labels were too. mines a 99z btw.

@ fst_99z24: I'm not sure if the '95-'99 Cavalier and Sunfire consoles are the same, but I know the '00+ are. I failed to notice that you have a '99 . I'm not sure how you would go about attaching a manual boot to a '95-'99 console. You could always get a '00+ console and then follow the directions I posted above .

The part with the power window switches is on the SAME plastic piece as that of the manual shift boot. I have an automatic as well and I bought for 6 bucks on ebay the cener console plastic piece complete with the shift boot off of a manual cavalier. Since my interior is painted white and blue, i taped off the boot and painted the piece white. So it can be done for cheap, on ebay type in "cavalier shift" and i got the shift column console piece as it was founf for me. I'll send a picture on here so you can see it, but its easy to install just use a screwdriver to pop off the old part, Mine is a 97 so its the same as a 99 -Kyle

The 95-99 Sunfire Coupe console is different,i have one and am switching my 99 cavy over to a full dunfore interior.

My stock 99 cavy center console is for a manual and if interested ill sell it you if you want, make me an offer and its yours, i have a sunfire one to go in its place and dont need it sitting in my garage collecting dust. Althought the shifter trim piece does have some holes driled in to it where i had the swtiches for my Nitrous mounted.

I believe all the cavy consoles where the same, just the trim piece around the shifter wad differnt, so if you found a trim piece from a 95-99 manual car it should snap in place on your car and give you the manual look.

check out A Plus Performance. They sell a boot for the 95-99 auto console. otherwise just swap a console from a manual in.

Well, i couild probably do that, but like i said it has four holes where i had some switches mounted when i had N20 on the car before. I removed the switches when i removed and traded the N20 for some forged internals for my 2200 turbo engine.

Heres a pic of the switches so you can see where there will be holes, if thats cool with you its cool with me.
