Yep, I'm postin' a bounty on this project. Whoever figures out a way to do it gets their choice of a Black Cat Customs blue-backlit HVAC face (brand new, never used) or their choice of any CF interior piece that I make (with the exception of the gauge bezel). I'll have a ton of stuff in stock by the end of the month. First person to do it wins, although I will consider second and third prizes if it becomes a group effort.
This is what I want:
I need one of you smart and resourceful people to figure out a way to take the power window switch apart and change the color of the bulbs. Might be easy, might be hard. Every single light in my interior is blue except these and it's driving me NUTS! I tried to take it aprt but had to stop when I started to get scared I'd break it. I know some of you are much braver than me...
Anyone who successfully does this must provide specific instructions and/or required parts to do so. And no, I don't want to do this with a magic marker!
Feel free to email me or post here.
Now bust out them electrical kits and get to work! I'm too busy with remodeling my custom garage to do anything with the car for awhile...pics coming soon!

Blue Cav Customs
i started to do that as i was taking a break and smoking a cigarette while putting my dash back in, but after geting it half way, i realized i would need to sit down at my table to f*** with it
I'm in the same boat... all my lights are blue, and soon to be HU blue too, and the switch will not match... speak of the devil i'll see later today, cuz i was planning on getting into it tonite....

hmmmm, i wont be back in the US for another 10 days, but i have an extra set of power widow switches i could do it on. i dont think it would be too hard either
Fred Ohlson "The people that devised this cruel attempt
at acceptance and fame burn in there honda civics"
pop the swtichs out and paint the back side with blue glass stain paint
the switches should pop out once removed from the bezel
I really don't want to paint anything like this after the Great HVAC Knob Painting Disaster that I had a couple years ago.
I just don't think I'm going to get the same uniform coating that you'd get from blue LEDs.
But maybe a great back-up plan!
Best of luck to the others who want to take a shot at this!
i had mine painted red then got sick of em an washed em out usin hot water (i just used a red sharpie)
ill have to look at my extra switch when i get home
damn i have seen this b4. i remember a while back when i saw this guy with blue switches. i think i kinda remember how he did it not 2 sure. i remember that he took the black coat off the switches like we do for the hvac knobs. dont really remember how he did it i dont think he used a @!#$en blow dryer but he did it. and then he put some leds in the switches and it made the switches glow blue........

OK, here it goes............
1) take the whole panel out
2) discoinnect the plug
3) there are tabs that hold tyhe unit in place on the poanle, pull them apart and remove the switch "box"
4) on the box, there is a back plastic cover piece, move the sides over and remove the cover
5) go to the top of the"box, and take a tiny flathead, move the center of the switch out, so trhat the swicth itself comes off... (pretty much there are little tabs that hold the black part of the switch in the center)
6) once you got ththose removed, if you look of both sides, there are 4 holes that you cas see white plastic through,(each of those are tabs) if you take your fingers and hold the edges out, and take your thumbs and push the clear squares in, the whole unit should pop out.
once you have the unit out, you will see that there is a small bulb that is soldered onto there, ( it alos has one of those little condom thingys )
The best way i imagine on going about changing that, is probably use the same LEDS that i used in my HVAC controls, and what i used to solder to my gauge cluster, a #74....
Well honestly, HERE ios where it will get tough,
take one oif those # 74 bulbs, unbend the terminlas so that thgey are starigt, cut the excess plastick that the terminals bend around, Now desolder the bulb that is on there, making sure you have a VERY stady hand, since it will be a VERY tight spot. When you have the bulb out, make sure you have the small hole to put your new LED into it. Alo make sure you have the right sie of the LED to the posite end, and the negative to the negative. now drop some sloder to make the LED permanent.
You are now ready to assmeble the "box" plug it in and enjoy.
Required tools:
a small tiny flat head for those tabs
a #74 bulb replacement LED ( the easiest way)
a soldering tool ( pen style only, since it's a tight spot)
solder, of course
and a very, very gentle touch so that you don't break the thing taking it apart.
Specific enough........ ??????

That sounds pretty freakin good, buzz. Did you break anything to get to that bulb?
We may have a winner!
actually, no......... BUT letme warn you, if youre not carefull, you will brak something, especially the black switch cover thingys that have the window emblem...
they just have these tiny tabs.......
the cicuitry comes sorta in two pieces......... the main board, and then there will be these copper strips, on the other
those two you wont be able to separate, ( i looked at it for somme time) and i realized that you can't seperate it, unless you seperate the coppoer strips which are joined by creasing one end. Pretyy much a special tool.... once you will have it apart, you'll see.
The soldering......... its dificult, since the end of the bulb is in between the two boards

a little update........ just actually soldered the bulb on there.......
couple of issues......
1) burned my finger
2) when you solder the LED on there make sure, and double make sure you have the right side (menaing positive and negative) to the correct copper strip. The outter one should be the positive, meaning that the resistor side goes there. I accidentaly did it the wrong way, at first.
3) its a little dimer than i thought, but it's definatly blue, and i never checked how bright the original light is....
4) somehow i did something wrong, but i lost the part where the drivers side has the automatic all the way down....... for me it's not a biggie
BUT THEY ARE BLUE...........
thanx for the inspiration, on getting it done. Now i just need my HU.

what area code you callin from just in case?
in my sig, it's called a T-Rex....... it's a crotch rocket and small car cold fusion accident.. it is awsome....
J TO ENVY <--- If you send me the switch, a return label, and the LED, and $10, then i can solder it on there for you
Blue Cav Customs <--- for you the same goes, only minus the $10, in case youre still scared
Sal Medina <--- are you talking about the actuall swicth, making it all clear??? NOT possible, since the thing is made of all black plastic. The window emblem, i only have the outline, cuz i took my nail, and scrubed off the inside markings.

OK, Buzz you have talked me into it. I'll send you mine since I do not have the soldering pen.
I'll give you a call to discuss this and the gauge bezel, it'll be from 703 area code.
Thanks man!
Steve

One last thing (I don't have those bulbs so let me know what I owe you for one)
Can you take a pic of the brightness level?
I'll probably do it either way, but I'd like to know what to expect.
Thanks!
sure i'll take a pic with my crappy camera...
for you, don't worry about the bulbs, i just ordered some
remember, when i did mine, i lost the auto down, for the drivers door, but i did take the WHOLE switch apart, including the sliders, but that was to try to see if the two boards come apart. to replace the bulb, that won't be necessary
