'00+ Sunfire console in a '95-'99
Saturday, October 15, 2005 1:59 PM
I have a '00+ center console that will be going into my mom's '98 Sunfire Sedan as soon as the master window switch arrives. What I need to know is how easy will it be to install? It seems that in the '98 there is no bolt right under the HVAC panel like there is on the '00+. Will this effect how the console fits? Do all the other bolts line up properly? Is there anything else I need to know about installing the '00+ console in a '98? Thanks in advance.

Yes. It took some convincing but once I pointed out the larger arm rest and two cup holders she couldn't say no . Plus we were able to get it for cheap on eBay.

Well there is a bracket that bolts on using the 2 forward shifter studs that needs to be swapped over as well that has the bolt hole for the front of the console

Then there is a bracket that is held on by the back of the shifter and e-brake handle that woud need to be swapped as well because thats for the screw that is under the window switch, and then the 2 screws in the console itself is the same.

I just swapped in a 95-99 sunfire coupe consle into my 99 cavy along with the entire dash from a 95-99 sunfire, now al i need is a set of 2K+ sunfire door panels and my swap will be complete.

I have my stock 99 cavy 5 speed console for sale if anybdy is intersted?

yea if it's anything like putting a 00+ cavi center console into a 95-99 cavi it'll fit in but one bolt won't be able to go in and it'll sit crooked.

found that out when i put my 00+ center console in my 99 cavi.

So, in other words I need the mounting brackets from a '00+? Are the mounting brackets bolted in? How do I go about getting them out of the car? Thanks.

You will unbolt the shifter assembly and the ebrake assembly and the 2 brackets will be under them. Remove them, and then bolt the shifter and ebrake back down.

But what console are you putting back into your car?

Okay. Is it difficult or time consuming to remove the brackets?

I am putting a '00+ Sunfire Sedan center console into my mom's 98 Sunfire Sedan. Thanks for the help .

00+ consoles are the same for both Cavalier and Sunfire... it's only the 95-99 ones that were different between the two models.

The metal brackets are bolted to the shifter/ebrake assembly. You should be able to find them at any wrecker...

@ Lenko, John Lenko: Yeah, I know the '95-'99s are different and the '00+s are the same . Now I just hope the junkyard still has that '03+ Cavalier so I can get the brackets out of it . Thanks for the help.

I know. What I meant about the '03 Cavalier was that was the only '00+ Cavalier or Sunfire in the junkyard that I go to .

First off... I'm a girl !

Second, my mom really isn't into modding her car per say, it's more like I do stuff to her car and she ends up liking it . No, she's not getting Nitrous, although she would like some flame throwers for when people are riding her a$$ !

My dad is into cars, although he always yells at me not to do anything else to my cars, but then he's always the first one to suggest we take the GT to car shows .

Okay this morning I took the center console in my '02 Sunfire GT out to see what tools I would need to get the brackets with at the junkyard. Well, the rear bracket came out fine, but the front bracket is attached to a huge piece of metal that has a cable running through it that is attached to the shifter. I don't want to screw up my transmission or anything, so how do I go about getting this front bracket off? Thanks in advance.
