ok ive put in a console out of a 2005 cavalier in my car. i noticed it has a cigarette lighter on the passenger side down near the end for cellphone chargers im guessing. i was wandering if theres a way to hook this up. cause ive got one cigarette lighter now up near the steering wheel and im removing it put a gauge there. so how would i hook up the one on the console.
and btw im not a smoker...
ok well cut the conector off where factory one is extend the wires the put plug back on and hook to lighter part and boom there you go!

do i have to use a certain gauge wire or will any old wire work...
you'll have to extend the wire down there.. but if you use the same size of gauge wire that it comes with stock you'll be fine

it's very easy...Just extend the wiring.
Insure you connect the pos with the pos and the neg with the neg
I have a 04 and both are always live.
yes different colors but u can figure it out im sire and i think its 18 ga. wire but not positive!
wasn't the black neg, and the orange pos???
do this.... cut the plug from your existing cig liughter, end ectend the same color wire to the same color wire, and use you existing plug for the NEW plug.... this way youll have no problems matching the wires...

in automobile wiring the black is the negative or ground and the red is the positive or power. good luck with the wiring!
Generally you are correct but other colors are used as well. Its been awhile since I've had my console out but I believe Buzz is right black is negative and orange is positive. And just for future knowledge all red wires are not always positive.
in automotive, they use all sotsa different colors, like my crx, i had two blacks, into the cigarete lighter..
but since i had my dash out, the cig lighter next to the column is balck (neg) and orange (pos), trust me i tested, and taped into it......
