Ok, well my 99 cavy coupe came with power mirriors and locks but not windows and its something i have been wanting to do for awhile, but i dont like the aftermarket kits i want it to look factory.
So i just bought 2 brand new regulators with new motors off ebay for 80 bucks each and i ned to know if anybody can tell me if the power regulator is a direct interchange for the manual regulators?
Also i have the factory service manual with the wiring schematic and now i need to go to the wrecking yard and find a car to get the harness and a good switch out of.
Has anybody gone this route and if so how hard was it an what kind of problems did you run into.

Well i went to the wrecking yardtoday and got lucky, i found a sunfire coupe with power windows and nabbed the switch and complete wiring harness for the windows for 10 bucks. The switch seems to be in good working order just some surface wear.
So once i get my car back from the trans shop and the new regulators and motors from ebay it should be a straight forward install.

oh crap im definatly waiting to see how this turns out. gears turning slowly but turning
yep the swap in, you just have to drill out the rivets holding the manual regulator in place, i've done it on 2 cars already, don't bother with using stock wiring, i ran all the power to the switch and then to each motor, but the next time i do it, i'm going to use the stock system's relay's and re wire it, to make it easier, and a much cleaner installer. plus it'll be a bit safer too
BTW go with the biggest 10-12ga wiring, and you'll have uber fast pwr windows, i ran 16ga, and they were so slow, bumped it all up to 12ga and man what a difference
good luck, if ya need any more help, email me caitsith2001@hotmail.com

Well i was looking in the 99 service manual for my car and they dont list any relays for the windows, just there own fuse in the fuse box.
I may rewire the stock harness with bigger wire, i would like to have them move pretty fast. Well see, usually the stock setup is pretty fast if the motors are good.
Ill have my car back today and hopefully this week the new regulators will be here and next weekend ill put them in.

sorry to bump old post but i wanna see how this turned out
i dont think he's gonna do it
he's partin out/sellin the car in the south regional forums under
TEXAS CLASSIFIEDS
you can convert from manual to power pretty easily, i did it with just some 20 amp switches and the power window regulators/motors out of a 4 door cavy....now i installed them into a two door....to do this you must take the top and bottom track off your old regulators and put them inplace of the top and bottom of the new regulators.
its pretty simple to do...then drill out some pop rivets and reinstall..
the wiring, well thats another peachy little shop of horrors. I ran 4 10 gauge wires from my door under the carpet up into my center consol, then one 10 gauge wire from the additional fuse box i installed and grounded the switch
lets just say they move pretty fast....
Where did you put your switches for the windows? Do the Sedan LS Cavaliers have power rear windows too? I don't recall ever seeing one, just wondering.
i have a 96' 4-door cav first time having a 4 door so the handles, locks gotta go i bought a autoloc door popper system you can add the windows doors and some how the alarm my problem now is i don't have p,locks p, windows ...i'm going to do the front to power locks/windows this is going to be sooo fun lol theres a wrecking yard down the street from me and i'm good with the owner what do i need from the car ? window motor++++++? thanks

i mounted the switchs right behind the shifter (it used to have like a change holder, but i grabbed the one with a big hole for a 4 door car, made a plate and mounted the two switches that i bought from the local radio shack)
yes they have power front and rear
for a 4 door i would imagine you could just pull the window motor/switches/wireing to go with it, it didnt look THAT hard to get out...but might be a pita dunno
for my install in a 2 door i just grabbed the window regulator/motor, then cut the wires a good 2-3 inches from the plug so i could splice into them...i ran my own wires...and im useing a big enough switch to avoid needing a relay, if you need the relay diagrams for a 5 wire switch that controls a relay set i can make a simple one for you to see...ill see if i can get a digital camera and get some pictures of how i did it...its pretty simple, but the rivets are a PAIN to get out...if your REALLY lucky you might have aluminum rivits which arnt as bad, but factory they are steel...
Although I love p/w and p/l and p/m my 04 has none of it. Reason being the stuff fails often, at least my last car two window switches and a motor cost big ass $$$ to.
- 2004 Cavalier - 124k, owned since new
the lift motors are about 40 bucks at autozone....lifetime warrenty...but yeah the factory switches are probably pretty expensive...i spent about 6 bucks a pop on aftermarket ones
yes i would love to see pics of your install.... cause i have a 99 coupe cavy i might be interested in doing this with. im pretty sure i can get the parts at a local salvage yard.
can you also try to write up some instructions on parts ill need. and how to do the install.
thanks i appreciate it greatly
Hey for anybody wacthing this thread and that has a 2 ddor coupe 95-05 that wants to convert there manual over to power im selling the whole setup i bought to do mine. Im getting rid of the car and demodding it.
I have 2 brand new window regulators and window motors, motors are already installed on the regulator all you have to do is put the regulator in the door and a factory sunfire swithc that mounts in the console and the complete factory harness that goes from the switch to each door. All you need to do is pull power from the fuse box in the spot where the p/w fuse is.
I have alittle over 200 bucks, and several trips to local boneyards to find the switch and harness and will let everything go for 200 shipped.
Let me know at HotRodV6@aol.com if your interested.
Thanks

If they're power in the front... they're power in the back too. I believe it's only Neons that have power in the front and manual in the back
I got everything but the rear switches from ebay for 115 shipped. That was for a 4-door, Im not sure what the guy did but he removed nearly the entire inner harness for the car from an 02, so now I have to eliminate the extra wires but now I have the capability for power everything. Does anyone know how the power locks work? or what the rear switches look like or are mounted?
