Alright...So I have the famous upper dash crack. 2 at that. The first one I tried super gluing (yes call me an idiot) just to make them sit at the same height well now there is super glue residue all over and I just noticed another crack. They are horrible looking.
Here are my options so far:
Replace whole dash (too much damn time nor do I know anyone who could help me do it)
Fiber glass insert (no one can find, appealing though)
Vinyl that part of the dash (seems most logical right now)
Using cloth and spray adhesive (second most logical)
Anyone else have any other ideas?
once my buddy comes back from SC, with certain materials, i'll be ready to finally finish up the fiberglass piece, and you just might be able to do option 2!!!
in fact, this reminds me that i need to update my thread... but noone has asked anything about it yet...........
wait for it... wait for it... NOW GO!! ---> '02 LS Sport <---

Just get a DASH console from a junkyard and install the new dash in your car... it is very simple and there are tonnes of online step-by-step how to's with regard to taking the cav's dash apart and putting it back...
I, Myself have done it so many times that I can take the entire dash apart and put it back together in well under 15 minutes.

Well come on over this way then...Haha...
That was what I was going to do at first but I have been told many times its not worth it because that is a part of the core dash.

Please link cuz myself i plan to just pull out the whole dash including the area that i have cracked.. im repainting it all anyway, i found one out of a 02 LS Sport not cracked or anything.. Also im curious, is there a way to prevent this one from cracking when i replace mine? i was told there was a over tightened bolt but i wouldnt think that would be the whole cause? Thanks
I'd be on the boat for this. Even after getting @!#$ by winks. I really need one to cover them cracks.
Yea I wish we could find someone with covers. Today I'm going to run by a buddy of mine and see about getting it vinyled over.

15 minites to pull the whole dash? GM Warranty time pays 2.1 hours. You are talking about the TOP peice only, not the peice that houses the radio, ac controler, glove box etc.
...Blaze... wrote:lol... yeah sorry guys... I misread the post... I didn't realize you were talking about the bloody piece adjacent to the windsheild.
It's not going to take 15 mins anymore but it is still not all that much complicated. I have removed the entire dash/deck/hvac panel/gauge cluster in about 30 mins. The top piece I am not too sure about. I never had a need to remove it. (Not cracked at all *knock on wood*)
You can find out how to remove the dash and then take it from there...

Hope that helps some...
I'm just to chicken @!#$ to try and do it myself..I'm good at messing @!#$ up..Soo I guess I will be covering it.
it's not that hard really...Once you take off one part you keep going at it until the whole thing is removed. The pain would be the steering wheel...if you have an aftermarket wheel it's a whole lot easier to remove.
Stock wheel is easy to remove if you have a steering wheel puller.
I swapped out the WHOLE dash assembly for a non-cracked unit in 2 hours, taking my time, pulled the bags, steering wheel, CD deck, I pushed the HVAC back in and pulled it through the new one..........it's easy as cake honestly, check out my post in here..
Update:
Alright, I got all the super glue residue off with some finger nail polish with acetone. Some guy over on automotive forums suggested this stuff but I'm not sure. Have any of you ever heard of it?
This is what he said and the link:
I've been fixing cracked plastic parts for years and haven't found anything better than this stuff. Whether it's parking lens', plastic molding, almost anything made out of plastic, and it's instantaneous. The only thing it won't fix is polypropolene. The nice part about it, not that it's quick, but you won't even see the repair. I always use a "Q" tip to apply it because it's very watery. What it does is actually welds the plastic by melting it together. Unlike glue, you hold the two parts together and touch the soaked "Q" tip to the part and it's done. It's that quick!

Ya I was in shock when I took my dash off recently and found that the once simple crack in my upper dash piece actually was cracked through the entire housing thing that was connected to it. I guess that solves the wierd creeking noise to my car....
~Boost. Its what's for dinner!~
I used a mini butane torch to actually melt a small hidden crack on my new one, it's under the dash pad so eh
. Worked out nicely!
