Placed For LCD Screen.
Thursday, November 10, 2005 6:42 PM
I'm looking for pictures ideas for where to mount a 7" Power Acoustik LCD screen. I was thinking of taking the passanger airbag out, then but the screen facing the center console. and in the place of the airbag panel wrap it in think leather that goes all the way around and up over the top of the LCD so its covered? (maybe a tilt back, just a little though) does that sound like it would look good, be functional.

It'd be much better to put it where the stock radio is IMO. If you do a real good job with it, it'll look stock

Here's a pic of "Orange Syn" in the Post your interiors thread in this forum:

That's bigger than your screen, but you get the idea. Most people that do that put their radio in the glove box or where the vents are above the stock radio (only works with 1 DIN aftermarket radios, not the stock one). Putting the headunit where OS has his takes more work because you need to move the HVAC too.

^ I believe the only diff is the openings, not 100% sure tho. My sis had a 97, and the overall shape looked the same as my 2K. Some1 else in here might know for sure tho...

NO, they are a different shape and all vents down. Looks close untill you hold them up next to eachother

See the pictures are great. But I dont want all the colors and whatnot I like a somewhat dark interiour. And plus, i dont have the time for fiberglass nor the extra cash.

Well, I was gonna say you can still toss it in where the radio is, but I just looked at your profile and saw that you have a 98, so I dunno if that'll work...

The airbag spot is a bish to do from what I hear, and it looks like absolute crap no matter how well you do it.

As for the color of interior, that's up to you. When I still had a stock interior, the gauge/HVAC/radio surround was flat black Looked good w/ the charcoal interior (except the uber-gh3y tan ceiling). Fiberglassing is actually a lot cheaper than I was expecting it to be (I'm making my own dash). I think I paid like $10 for a big can of resin, and I've bought like $25 worth of F/G cloths ($5/ea). By the time I finish my interior, I'll have a lot of money into it, but everything is getting F/G'd (except carpet areas lol)

here is a couple of shots of mine it isnt done and will prob be changeing soon but atleast you get to see some others things. and i think you said you dont want to fiberglass. if you dont want to most tv's come with mounting brackets so you can mount them in diff places.

good luck

1 recommendation. When you glass or mold the screen make sure only the actual screen is showing. It looks way cleaner than if you have the whole LCD housing showing like buttons and such. Well atleast thats how Im doing all 15 of mine.

most screens I've worked with, once the power button is on, you can hook them to a switch and they will come on when power is applied, for the most part you don't need the buttons. also, the good ones should come with a remote anyway

SURE i dont want to thread jack though. just trying to help

first i cut out a big enough space so he frame would fit where my old vents were. then i used popscicle sticks and hot glued them as support for my fiberglass. then i drilled some holes in the plastic so the fiberglass would stick better. then i used posterboard to make the shape i wanted, i was worried that it would give out with all the glass on it but it held up great. and then lots and lots of sanding. if you wnat more detailed instructions let me know and i can email you.

I have a miniITX board, its a small motherboard, and it fit fairly nice in this spot under the dash behind the center console area. I do not have a head unit, I only listen to .mp3's and cd's(I have a slim dvd/cd-rw drive under the hvac controls). I may one day buy a usb fm receiver, but have no real need for it, as I hardly listened to the radio in the first place. Maybe one day I'll get satellite radio, but don't see a need for it either.

As for me leaving the buttons, I left them in because I have 3 inputs on the screen, and decided if i ever wanted to change inputs, or the screen characteristics, I could. My screen didn't come with a remote, and since it was my first time doing something like this, and me not having a really small tip for my soldering iron, I didn't want to mess up the screen trying to relocate the buttons.

^ You sure he's war-driving?? He could have just bought a contract with Nextel, Verizon, Cingular, etc. They have PCMCIA cards that provide wireless internet. Cost is kinda high tho, the card is usually $150+, and the contracts typically start around $80/month I think. I'm planning on doing WiFi in my car too lol
