can anyone give me a detailed step by step on how to fiberglass a 96 cavalier dash any help is appreciated
from what i was told this is how you do it
1. on the upper part pick the vinyl off.
2. lay down 2-3 layers of fiberglass resin and fabric down.
3. sand smooth.
4. check for high or low spots. fill or sand down.
5. primer
6. paint
i was also told don't take this out of the car when doing cause it will cause the dash to form in weird shapes and not fit proper.
if any of this is wrong please add.
when I did mine i used resin on top of the vynal a couple layers of matte bondo then paint I also did mine out of the car but I beleive the fire dash has more stregth then the cavi one
WELL THIS MIGHT NOT BE THE RIGHT WAY BUT THIS IS WHAT I'M DOING "TODAY"
1) REMOVE THE DASH REMEMBER THERES 2 BOLTS IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT THAT HOLD DOWN THE AIRBAG FRAME OF THE DASH
2) REMOVE THE AIRBAG COVER FROM THE DASH (PLASTIC,SAND IT) ASWELL AS THE VENTS
3) I'M REMOVING THE FOAM LAYIER ASWELL CAUSE I THINK THE FIBREGLASS WELL STICK BETTER AND LAY FLATTER BUT IT'S A BIT@H TO REMOVE WITH A BOX CUTTER SHAVING IT THATS WHERE I'M AT NOW .
4) USE 80GRIT AND SAND IT HERE AND THERE JUST FOR ADDED GRIP FOR THE FIBERGLASS TO STICK
5 IF YOU HAVE THE WEAVED MAT FIBERGLASS CUT OUT A LONG PIECE GLUE ONE SIDE UNDER THE DASH TO HOLD THE MAT IN PLACE THEN BRUSH ON YOUR RESIN ON THE DASH LAY YOUR GLASS OVER THE DASH THEN APPLY YOUR RESIN OVER THE TOP JUST ALITTLE TO MAKE THE GLASS WET TUCK IN ANY FLAPS ON THE OTHER SIDE MAKE SURE THERES NO AIR POCKETS USE A SPREDER TO PUSH THEM OUT... 5 BLOCK SAND ANY HIGH/LOW SPOTS /PRIME/SAND/ AND PAINT

ding! atleast someone know glassing. you need to drill alot of holes all over the dash so the resin will seep in and bond to the dash. if this is your first time glassing, i suggest starting on somethin' smaller
ya i've done alot of glassing before just not on plastic mostly on metal if ya grind it good the glass sticks but ya your right small holes all over would help as well. for the resin to go into but not to big where the mat sumps into the holes thanks!
