Rhino Line Check list
Tuesday, December 06, 2005 4:25 PM
So I am tired of my rattlecan cav, and im going to be rino lining the interior, as people have said that makes it dead quiet, and these jackass audio places around here want 6000usd to JUST sound deaden the car (bay area people if yhou can give me a reasonable price the job is yours). So some quick questions. I am thinking of taking off my door panels nad have htem spraying that, is that the best or should it go on the door. Then im thinking of having them do the floor, but what about the firewall. Shoudl I have them do the underside of my dash as well, and the trunk. I need peace and quiet as I listen to black metal!

Its Rhino lining. And its hard to apply inside a car. Most people who do it only do the underside of their car, where it belongs.

Why not dynomat or fatmat your car? 100 sq ft of fatmat costs about $100, and you can do it yourself. Btw your only gonna use 75 sq ft for the whol;e car, it leaves you extra for whatever.

My car is real quite eexcept i have a problem with the window tracks rattling.

would doing it on the underside make it really quiet and how many layers of fatmat did you use?? and where di you put it, on the floor, on the door panels, on the firewall??

rhino lining is not meant for sound deadening, dynamat is. *gasp* would you think doing it right would sae you money? and the purpose of putting it under the car is for rust protection, not sound deadening, yes it may work for that but it is not its intended purpose. and dynamat, you would put where ever you see a place that would be a problem for sound.

check out dynamats website http://www.dynamat.com/

spray in rhino liner would be great for sound deadening but will not do anything for heat insulation. Lizard skin spray in ceramic sound deadening could be used, it is made for it. Who cares what something is made for, if it works for something other than its intended purpose why not use it? Dynamat extreme is just butyl rubber with foil stuck to one side, why not spray in rubber and get better coverage for less money
I SAY DO IT...then report back...I have read many places this works great, and it does the same thing as dynamat. I havent done it yet as I am not at that stage yet, but will when I get there. for extra sound deadening spray the bottom of the car and the inside.

All you need is here:

http://www.fatmat.com/fatmat/bulk/100ft.htm

If you want, you can get a liquid fatmat to go over the actual sheets for better sound deadening.

Would 100sqr feet cover the floor and all 4 doors, thanks

Read this before you install anything. Someone else already did the work to compare sound deadening so check it out before its too late.

ACC is the best palce for your carpet. Its about $135-150 Any color, pre molded. Only place you need to cut is the same places your stock was, and that around the shifter.

Either carcustoms or Aplusperformance sells it, i dont remember which.

As I have stated repeatedly, this isn't a rigorously scientific review. I got a bunch of samples and did what I could to evaluate them. While this approach is obvious lacking in a lot of ways, I think I learned some essential truths that should help in your evaluation. Additionally, since I posted the first version of this project, I have been contacted by some legitimate experts in this field, several of whom contributed important context and guidance.

I know that the temperature test was probably the most valuable to me as I live in phoenix where it gets up to 1000 degrees in the summer and 1 billion inside the car, so Most of those products would not work for me. Saved me some money and time there. I am still testing other products in my own cars in my never ending quest for a car that sounds like a luxury car without breaking the bank though, so we will see what I find. A Db comparison using different products in a car and then different types of applications(mats, sprays, barriers, etc) would be most helpful but I dont have access to that type of equipment......yet.

when in doubt just add more layers. i went with generic sheets from parts express. used about 300sq. ft. of it doing 2-3 layers on the entire car and it is extremly quite, no noticable rattles and at 140db its barely audible outside the car.
