racing harnesses

Alright, I got my seats in yesterday and I was wondering where you guys mounted your racing harnesses (hopefully you've got some) and possibly pics of where they are in the car, just looking for ideas on how to do it. Thanks a lot in advance.

LATCH child seat anchors in the bottom of the rear seat. but mine are mostly for show because after market restraints are illegal here. so I'm not sure how strong they are. but just because they will hold a child seat in during a crash dosnt mean they are strong enough to hold an adult in.

usually you would want to mount them to the rollcage if you have one, if not, Stolen's idea is what is most commonly done. I wonder if after market restraints are illegal in Illinois too?

unless your aftermarket system is DOT approved, which I think only shrothe harnesses, specifically the Rallye 3 is, you can't use it on the road.

I can only use my G-force harness at autox's

However you can usually get away with wearing it if you have the stock seatbelt as well... Kinda sucks but it's a work around.

I'd want to see pics of that too. I want to put a set in my car for autox, and am not getting a roll cage put in.

it looks a little goofy because you can see the harness running down it to the rear seat.

my buddy made his own seat brackets for his civic. he just drilled an extra hole in the bracket and mounded the harness to that it runs down the back of the seat and looks clean. but i dont know how strong it is. i perfer the LATCH mounts.

I would get a 4 point cage if your going to run harnessess. That way u can connect it to the cross bar. Here is an example of how mine is connected but its in an f-body.

I know they make a bar that goes from the bolt for the stock seatbelt on one side, to the bolt on the other side and you mount the harness on there. It's called a Hardbar but i can't for the life of me find the site. Hopefully someone knows or knows a place to get moe info.
I remember someone selling one in the classifieds but its not there anymore.

A piece of advice: Do NOT bolt the shoulder harnesses to the floor directly below the rear of the seat. Doing this will keep you in your seat, which is good, but in a collision it will also compress your spine, which is bad. Trust me. I now have a nice scar on my back fom having surgery to repair 3 vertebrae in my spine. After that I would have rather taken my chances with the stock belts. The best, as said, is a roll bar or atleast a harness bar like the one from Sparco, but at the bare MINIMUM, you should bolt the shoulder straps to the seatbelt mounts for the rear seat. This will cause the straps to pull you rearward instead of pulling you down in case you get into that type of situation.

^^ i agree..even though i didnt do it that way he is probably right...although mine are not bolted to the floor..mine are bolted to the rear of the bracket..which is aluminum..which would probably give out in a "high speed" accident anyway ..but i expect the waist belt to take the blunt of the blow to hold me in anyway...(can u tell im not a fan of seat belts?? )
but as he said the rear seat or roll bar is preference

if yours are bolted to the rear of the front seat bracket then you can have the same results in an accident. basically if the seat breaks wich it can since there is nothing holding it back you will just fly forward into the airbag with allot more force

The lap belt alone is not meant to restrain you from moving forward in a collision. That's the purpose of the shoulder belt. The lap belt keeps you in the seat in a side collision or in the event of a rollover. To an extent they also keep you from sliding out from under the shoulder belt. But I know how you feel, I wasn't a fan of seatbelts, either until they saved my life.

yes it seems in ALOT of cars the lap belt is all they had in the back..pretty sure the shoulder strap is to reduce wiplash and spinal injury and things like that....doesnt really matter to me though...i had an airbag save my life once...but i still removed the airbags from my cars...i guess im just stong in the belief that its my life to lose and if im not hurting anyone else i shouldnt be told how to risk it...but thats just my feelings on it...im not the type of person who has to feel "safe" ..ya know?

Yeah, I do know the feeling. Which is why I worked in law enforcement for so long. I knew damn well I could get shot at or stabbed or even die in a chase because a drunk driver was stupid and thought he could outrun us, but it was my life to lose and it was my choice. Wether you wear your seatbelt or not, I don't care. But if you're going to wear them, wouldn't you want to know how and why they work or why they're designed how they are? I'm too young to remember the days when all cars had was lapbelts, but there was a reason that changed, right?

yea.your right..i was just saying.......i never thought about the "compressing the spine thing" and i dont recommend people do it my way...if i didnt have that back seat delete in my car i would mount it to the back seat like you mentioned ...maybe i can get a roll bar
