question about painting top dash
Thursday, December 15, 2005 12:48 AM
ok so i was wondering to the people that have painted there entire dash. that top piece that is closest to the window (the one that usually cracks in half and basically holds the whole dash together). did you take the whole piece out of the car when you painted it or did you just paint it in the car.

for example:

this piece.

thank you.

by the way this is not my car. just using it for example. duh.

i'm baaaaack!!

in order to do it right you have to take it out. it slopes right into the windshield and it would be impossible to get that small section where it reaches the windshield. now i know your going to ask so in order to take that piece out you literally have to take your whole dash off but its not a big deal if your gonna paint it anyway

but in order to install the cover, you have to take the whole dash out to get to that piece

I painted mine while it was in the car. Its a pain but its easier than taking the whole dash out.

You gotta take out the screws that hold it in. Duh.

^^^^^ It's not a duh question some peeps have never takin one out. there's wires, grounds, etc, so by saying just take out the screws. what about the airbag system?
My advice would be to go out to your local auto parts store and buy a Haynes repair manual 1995/2000 all models cal/sunfire. Or a auto how to book with the year of your car. and a lot of little baggies for your nuts and bolts

Huh, the sunfire must be different, cause that piece just pops right out, while the dash stays put.

I know. I said that cause there are several threads that tell you how to remove the dash. He would have found them if he just searched.

Basicly saying that using a shawsaw (sp) is an easier way, but not the best way.
