i know this is a completly retarded question, but i am painting some interior peices in the car silver and would like to do a blueish pearl over the silver. i know i can and am planning on getting them done right with auto paint, i am just waiting to get the car done at the same time. so this is in the meantime. i am looking for a pearl paint in a spay form... any suggestions? i searched here, and googgle, no luck. please help!!!

When you say "in spray form"... what do you mean exactly?

MAD PROPS for going with actual automotive paint, unless you are referring to "auto paint" in a spray can.

Pearls normally come in a power form, which judgeing by your question I'm guessing you knew. However... if you were wanting to do a pearl coat over a base coat, you can get the powered pearls put into a binder/balancer in order to spray along over the basecoat, and the pearl coat will be fairly transparent (i.e. not cover up the base totally, just give the pearl effect). The body shop that is doing this, SHOULD know how to accomplish this.

Mixing the pearl in a binder/balancer, will spray just like an additional base coat, however when spraying pearls and metallics you have to use alternate spray patterns in order to get an even coat, and prevent the pearls from tiger stripping, which the body shop should know already,... if they don't... then time to go find another body shop.

Ive actually done this before a bunch of times. The white pieces in my interior were sprayed basecoat white, then spray a pearl top coat over it. The pearl top coat is translucent and really gives that basecoat a really cool effect

There's another option. I use airbrush to get the effect. I'm an artist and people are always asking me to do airbrush work for their cars, helmets, whatever. There's actually pearlescant paints that they make for use with airbrush, and it gives the same effect as the automotive stuff, if applied correctly, with less cost. If you happen to know someone that has the skills and the equipment, that's an easy alternative. It can be covered with automotive clear to protect it too.
