Fibreglassin.. how unsafe is the resin. in- house

i can put a few fans on and open a window but i know it wouldn't as much circulation as if you were doing it outside without a shop.
should i not do it? because i dont know if it is too hazardous.

You could get away with it, BUT your house will smell for quite a while. It is also very messy. If you don't live alone everyone in the house will probably hate you for stinking up the joint. You also need to keep the room warm enough for the resin to harden, if it gets cold in there Most of your resin will run off of the vertical surfaces of what you are glassing. I would suggest using a garage (yours or a friends).

the health effects of breathing the fumes are unknown. i think there is styrene in polyester resin, so i wouldn't be using it where you'll be breathing it continuously, imho.

how could the health effects of resin fumes be unknown? i'm sure its not going to be a health miracle to breath in.

They haven't actually been able to prove the effects of resin fumes on humans, there have been cases of permanent brain and nervous system in some people who are around resin a lot, so that's as much of a warning as they give you. Go ahead, check the label.

There's no doubt in my mind it is a health hazard! Just keep those fans running.

The resin itself is still unknown really, but I'm pretty sure it damages your health because it says may cause dizzyness and nausea (sp.) and damages the nervous system and brain damage...but still not for sure.

The fiberglass and resin once cured and sanded is really bad for your health..picture microfiber pieces of glass floating in the air, you breath that in, and it stays in your lungs, as you have tiny bits of glass imbedded in there.

I do say keep those doors open and fans blowing for a damn long time. but my best suggestion is don't do it indoors at all!

ya i really would not do that at all, come to my shop and i will show you the long term affects of not wearing a mask and breathing that posion
you should wear a respirator, long sleevs, basicly protect your body from that posion
why don`t ya just wait until it gets warmer

It's going to make your house stick for days! Plus you should have atleast a bodymans mask, long sleeved, and gloves when working with it. Personally I'd wait till spring, then do it outside.

I do it all the time. My house only smells strongly of resin for a day or so, then after that its pretty faint. I also only wear rubber gloves with a short sleeved shirt, fiberglass in that form doesn't itch unless you are working with chop.

wait until it warms up, do it outside.. just because you cant see the effects to your body, doesnt mean that its not being effected

That may be true of the resin, but MEKP poisoning is pretty real. So either keep a bucket of acetone around (and a fire extinguisher) or glove up (Tyvex suits are nice too). Always wear safety glasses and a respirator, with proper filter, as well. Oh, and keep any MEKP away from steel.

Remember if there is any doubt about anything, call the manufacturer and get a MSDS.

wear some gloves do it in your bathroom with the exhaust fan on leave it in there for about five hours before you go back in then it can finish curing in the garage

just wait to do it when it warms up. for one you shouldnt be stupid enough to sand inside anyway so just wait for some heat.

for sure wait till it warms up. Do it in the shop, and dont risk it. Some things just need to wait if it involves ur health.

Here from someone who works with it: Repeated and prolonged to solvents AND resins can and will cause brain and nervous system damage. do not breath vapors or sanding dust a paper filter mask is good for most dust but not vapors NIOSH approved only the fiberglass mixture contains : polyester resin and styrene oxide which is a carcinogen
Not only do i know this but everyone else does. Everthing out there thats for sale has a material info data sheet that tells you the hazzards?

i still went ahead and did my dash inhouse with a tarp and mask and open windows and a blow dryer the sanding took place outside fibreglass dust is itchy as hell! don't do it indoors!

I'm sure you have a friend that has a garage, right? Don't risk your nervous system over a dash or whatever you're fiberglassing.
