alright i came up with this idea the other day debating on doing it or not. Need the .orgs opinion....

THE IDEA-------------------
I was thinking of taking my cd player for my car and taking the face plate off and fiberglassing it into my factory steering wheel (just the face plate). then soddering all the wires from the face plate to the head unit hidden so that you cant see them. Then make just a slot coming out for the cd to go through!

what do u guys think??? need opinions really fast.

I think that is a alot of work. And what happens when the bags blow? You get a face full of hard plastic.

Maybe not in the wheel, but somewhere else? Or disable the bags (please don't flame). Just offering opinions.

it's been done... but never in the steering wheel, I like it in the headliner above the mirror. CAT5 network cable works great for the wires going from the HU to the face plate

instead of a slot for a CD why don't you get a like 6 disc CD changer and put it somewhere of easy access? just a though....

its been done. there a post on here somewhere where some one put it on the pillar by the dash. thing was it wouldnt recognize when the face was down or up. so it wouldnt eject the cd.

i know its been done, i just have never seen it in the steering wheel though!

meh, if your makin' a show car, i wouldnt keep the stock steering wheel. it would look so much better w/ a after market wheel than a stock wheel w/ a cd player in it.

the alpine bmw has the headunit in the steering wheel. would be allot of working but if your really good with a soldering iron its doable.

You would have to hook up your wires to a custom clock spring like the air bag and horn are hooked into your clock spring. Pretty sweet idea but above the windshield would be cool.

it doesnt work right cause your face is molded in so you cant drop it down thus far the cd player will not let you put in a cd. cause it will always think the face is up.

Shaun Drake: Just get a head unit without a flip face.

If you want to do it just do it.
