so far this is what i've gathered from searching power window kits

SPAL kits suck... they are slow and loud
I've only heard of one person talk about the Electric Life kit and he said it was fast and quiet... can anyone second that

any other kits people can recommend?

I'll 2nd that in a heartbeat. You basically cant hear the electric life motors. Best part is they bolt up in the stock location as well. No guesswork at all. For the 209.99 they charge, I dont suggest anything else...

okay, i researched electric life and i found they have 3 types.

The Colibri universal regulator
Screw-Type regulator
Scissor-type regulator

which did you use?

The Colibri kits are exactly like the SPAL kits, universal and you have to figure out how to mount them yourself.

I'm not sure what the screw type is, I could only take a guess but its not an issue because you dont need this type.

The scissor type regulator is exactly whats in fires/cavs from factory. This Kit is the exact one I used, and the same one you'll need, provided you have a 2-door. You pop the rivets out of your old wind-up regulator, bolt this one in place, get the wiring done, and you're good to go. Only thing you have to figure out how to do is the wiring, no guess work on mounting the motor/regulator. Go this route and you'll be happy, guaranteed!

this is a dumb question but i don't even know where the stock power window switches go. i'm guessing its the 2 empty spaces behind the shifter right? i don't see any empty spaces in my door where normal power window switches go.

Electric Life are as fast and smooth as factory GM windows. You do want the scissor type like said above.

I installed this first before I did anything else to the car back in 98. They hold up well, but DO NOT use the scotch locks they supply. I did back before I was MECP certified, and didn't know any better. On a very cold January Pa morning, I believe it was 8 degrees out, I put the window down to see at the intersection by my house and they wouldn't go back up. I had to drive all the way to work (25 minutes) that way. Turned out the scotch lock behind my fuse box was shorting and not making connection anymore. So I resoldered everything.
