God that crank is pissing me off. I have been working on that stupid thing for almost an hour and it won't come off! I don't have the crank tool, Autozone, wal-mart, and VIP dont carry them. I tried using 2 flat heads, the whole cloth down behind the crank bit, nothing is making this crank move an inch! I ordered a crank tool from crutchfield tonight and it will get here monday, but I don't want to wait till then... Bah ... Is there anything else I can use or try to get the crank off? Maybe I'm not doing the cloth thing right. I read 2 large threads on the cloth method and I thought it would be a cake walk ...
Thanks a bunch guys!!!
When its pointed towards the roof, what way do I pull?
That didn't work... i folded a shift over 3 times and stuck it in there, I was pulling so hard i tore the shirt off around the handle ... What am I doing wrong? Do I go between the handle and the washer or the washer and the panel? Or does it matter?
i think the c-clip is between the handle and the plastic washer

Do this then. take a tin can, flatten it out, and with a tin snips, cut out the pattern of the clip. wrap tape around sharp edges Voila! New clip popper.
WARNING! if you get cut or tear something, not my fault.

I would have thought the Autosone would have had the pliars to take the c-clip out.
they look like needle nose pliars with very fine tips on them. The handles are reversable to either spring open when you squeeze them or spring closed.

Ok I got the handle off FINALLY. I don't know how well the shirt method worked to get me this far, but I got SSOOOO pissed at that handle I jabbed a funky set of pliers in behind the handle and just PULLED and it just breezed right off like it wasn't even attached... How interesting lol.
when you reinstall it, just leave the clip on the crank and slap in on the shaft crank and it snaps into place.

I dont know what kinda funky tricks you guys have, but all i do is push the panel back, get a light, get my head in there, and lok for the c-clip, then find the ends of it, and stick 2 flatheads in there and hit both of the ends, it will pop right off. Also most of the time u can use just one flathead and push on one side, and usually it will pop off. Also I have the same advice and crazy cav girl, just put the c clip back on the handle and push it on, it will be MUCH easier. Adios
now for my supreme art that will show you how.
blue the clip,
red the the crank shaft thing,
yellow your magic rag,
grab a rag you dont mind damaging, push in the panel and look for which way the clip is set, what you want to do is use the rag to grab (impale the rag with the clip) the clip and pull down so you are "opening" the clip wider it will pop off (the clip usually sticks in the rag)
this takes all of 10 seconds to take off.\
oh ya hold the crank (handle) so it doesnt spin and only the clip moves.
Well my window crank tool came today
So now I can pop my cranks off NP now
i got the same thing that u can get from Crutchfield from autozone... strange your autozone didn't carry one
1998 Sunfire, 2.2L auto
Yeah, nothing around me had it ....
all i did was steal.... borrow a tool from a volkswagen.
works with flat head srew drivers as well, i find the best are maybe just a flat head bit or a persision flat head (tiny screwdriver).
some volks with alloy wheels have a plastic cap remover tool for the lug caps. its a ring with a little pick on the end... works good.
I like my door handle poper tool. It was cheap, and I can take them off and put them on all day long in a matter of a second or 2.
