what do you guys sugest that i do so i can prop up my ipod on the center trim (were the shifter and cub holder is). i could just go with the old fasion way and have the wires hanging out every were and the ipod flying around on the floor when im racing. if you guys did anything to make the wires disappear and have some way on mounting please post pics
I have had an ipod wired in since my first gen
Here is a pic of my original install. I used the aux in on my Sony deck and put an extra cigarette lighter inside the glove box, then ran the wires up into the center console.
I just installed my Dension kit (which rocks cause i can now control my ipod through my deck and remote) plus i used a bracket from Bracetron. (you can also get them from panavise or profit)
Sorry about the dirt, i just took these pics.
If you are interested in ordering Dension kits, or how to install them, feel free to drop me an email
or spend $15 and get the iTrip. sends it thru a radio station. very handy. I actually have one for sale if needed(comes with the software)
RIP Kasey Burleson, and get well soon Chris Shelly
i can buy thos holders here... but thanx for the pics, i wanted to know what they looked like with them installed. I had a different way on going tho. On my 3rd generation cavy the councle were the cupholder and the shifter is i was going to eather make a base (basicly just like the charging docks you can get) and place it in the cubholder sence i never use it or if i deside i dont want to cover up the cupholderi would placing it inbetween the cupholder and the shifter. in doing the way with the cupholder i would make a circle out of wood and the wire it up so my Itunes cable attached to the bottom of it and once i start to redo the rest of my interior this summer i would fiberglass it around it so it can tie into the rest of the councle. if theres anything that will be in the way of doing this or if you want to know exactly whats all going on ill try to post a picture of my drawing. thanx for those pics tho.
If the 3rd gen cavi and 3rd gen sunfire are the same, from my experience the cup holder is not a good place, I have tried it as well. First off it is kind of akward to reach over the shifter to control, and second i found with the dock connector cable in, it either sat to high, getting in the way of the HVAC controls, and if i put it more shallow it was again akward to access the clickwheel.
idk if the fire are the same... to me it seems very oppen there. Its not going to be straight up and down its going to be at like a 70 degree angle or so, and the shifter is like 4inches (when in drive) away from the cubholder and i am going to make it shorter because it looks ugly that tall. this is the one were it would be placed in the cup holder with the shifter in drive posistion (the only place i would be touching the wheel or anything)
this is the image in the stand i made if i was going to place it inbetween the cup holder and the shifter.
i will be making a cup holder mount and take a pic of it and post it so you guys can give more feed back.
dang it the images didn't sho right crap ...
ITrip is very nice ...BUT you have to buy the car charger it eats your battery up quick. i have my i pod in my lap or the cupholder when i cruise but it has a silcone case so it doesn't slip around.
iTrips are nice, but they suck. At times they can be a pain in the ass, you can't listen to your music too loud, and you'll have to deal with some static every now and then. Get the iPod interface kit. You have to have a deck that supports it, (most new ones do), and it allows you to basically put your iPod anywhere in the car. I ran mine to my glove box, and even if you open the glove box, it's barely visible. It also sounds MUCH MUCH better than the iTrip.
You could buy a IPOD dock, and fibleglass the dock into the cupholder, or into the dash, then plug the ipod into it.
i have a kenwood radio that is ipod ready and my ipod is hidden you use the radio to control it instead of the actual ipod itself. so you dont even see mine
I've got an Alpine deck that controls the iPod thru a controller, kinda like yellow22 has. Mine sits in the glove box. I'm getting ready to rig up a case inside the glovebox so it has its own spot.
Lifes too short to drink cheap beer.
would i be able to but that interface kit on a 99' ? i think thats what my bros getting but the thing is i only get static when its quiet or off... i cant hear it once i have it turned up as im driving down the road. Maybe its there and im just use to it or something idk.
