Cavalier Cluster light problem
Thursday, January 19, 2006 3:48 PM
How hard is it to swap the lights on a cavalier cluster.. The reason being i did a switch from a 2000 no-tach cluster to a 2001 tach cluster and it doesnt display the miles and the MPH needle doesnt glow as bright as the other needles. and how is it done..

Another question is When i drive the Theft System and Check engine light come on but only after driving for a couple of hours what could it be? Thanks ahead of time

That setup is for a pre-2000 models where its possible to remove the needles i have a 2001 cluster and from prior experience you cant take off the needles or else it messes everything up..I would have done it that way but cant for that reason.. do you have a way you can do it for a 2000+ cavalier?

Before you go taking your car apart again, make sure your dimmer is set to full brightness. It can be bumped around and adjusted when you take the front dash off.

I don't know about the 2000+ models but on my 97 there are twist in and out bulbs on the back that you can get replacements at any autozone. And yes that is the bulbs that light up the needles and the odo.

I tried getting the needels to glow red with the bulbs i bought....but you cant get/well at least i cant get the stock lights out. I took it up to my local pep boys and they even said you cant. you need to take it to the dealer, so I am guessing you need to get replacement bulb housings or soemthing?

The 2000+ models use led lights I took apart one of my old clusters yesterday(the one that didnt have the tach)I fixed the problem with the middle MPH it just needed a good hit.. The Odometer on the other hand doesnt display anything.. Any ideas as to that one?
