Ok im trying to become a big "do it yourselfer" so im looking for a good service/maintanence manual for a 97' Sunfire so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks (P.S. kinda low on cash right now) lol
look for a Chiltons or a Haynes manual, they are both great and should give you all the info that you need. they can be found usually at the local auto parts store or a book store.
Ill make a sig someday
haynes, is good chiltons, has some updated things in there but there the same pics cause the pics are from G.M. service manuals diagrams too my first car was a lemon and i knew nothing about cars so i got a haynes manual to replace a heatercore on my 83 (nightrider lol) trans am it wasn't a eazy job i had to remove my whole dash and put it back together and yeah i still had a fist full of screws left!! but the manual helped big time and i say buy it! ya never know when you'll need it

Haynes and Chiltons, I have both, covers everything between pulling out the motor and pulling out the cigarette lighter...but Id try to find a Factory Service Manual, if you can...its printed by GM, and has everything you could ever want!
Get a factory service manual if you can afford one. Haynes and Chiltons are good until you want to do major engine work, then you need the factory manual because it has ALL the specs. Valve lash, torque specs, bore limits, compression limits, all that.

?????? Haynes repair manual : General motors, Chevrolet, Cavalier & Pontiac Sunfire
1995 thru 2000 All models....Chapter 2 Part C page(2C-3) ( The "SPECS")
#1 bore limits? Or out -of -round limits? .............0.0004 inch (0.010 mm) taper limit..........0.0003 inch (0.008 mm)
#2 torque specs? pertaining to what? Camshaft thrust plate to block bolts? 108 in-lbs are just the engine it's self?
The Haynes manual has all the specs for redoing a motor all the specs and pics are from the gm guide manuals so why go out and buy two books? Most G.M. dealership throw out the pre-1996 ( Ten year-old books) to make room for updated ones and now have them stored on disc but don't sell them to the public dear: Jon have you ever owned a Haynes/Chilton's manual? if so, Have you read it, Are just look at the pictures?

Huh. I missed those, I guess, so I stand corrected. I tried to find the specs for doing my valve lash and I couldn't find them. And I tried to find some things for my transmission and a few other major components and for the tranny it tells you what you need to know for the clutch, but nothing for the internals. I've rebuilt a transmission before and it helps to have the shop manual because there's a lot of things to keep track of. And I've owned Haynes and Chiltons manuals for other cars that just didn't have a lot of the info I needed.

The reson Haynes/Chilton manuals do not have transmission specs and repair guide is because of so many diffrent types of tranny aswell as the book is for the "home" do it yourselfer and a tranny has to many specs and dia, deg, not to many "do it your self" people have are know what a micrometer set is. And the ones that do drop there trans, where air tools are involed... Anyways ( deeeeej) start with a book and don't be shy to ask around with car qustions good luck

Im a firm believer in Mitchell on Demand, buut its very pricey.
