Accelerator pedals use to connect to the floorboard and pivot there, then some genius comes along and has them just float to where you can actually push on the pedal (top or bottom)without moving the throttle at all. What is the advantage of this? Also why does my new Cobalt 5-spd have a pos shifter knob compared to my brothers o4 Cavy 5-spd shifter knob?
i have not idea what ur talkin about...

Well, my guess would be that if there was an error, or technical malfuction and the pressure it lost, wouldn't it be safer for the gas pedal to just hang there, rather then drop straight to the floor to put you in danger??
My 93 Buick had the hanging pedal. My friends 89 Camaro, etc all did. So i don't know what cars you had, lol
Cobalts just don't impress me regardless.
The reason whr the gas pedal is not mounted to the floor is cause people would rest their foot on it. which is a safety issue.
my gas pedel sticks to the floor all the time, stuck at full throttle. Gotta love the floormat pedel bind.
I might be mistaken, but didn't the new civic SI go back to the floor pedal?
"Man with my windows tinted and badges gone I'll be able to do 200 mph easy. Do stickers add horsepower?"
It's been awhile since I had the old style pedal, but I think the 65 and older cars were that way. Also all the semi's have pedals mounted to the floor still today, it is not a safety hazard to them? Only thing I can see is something could get behind it and keep you from pushing it down. This new style makes you put your foot all the way up on the pedal or your foot can slip under the pedal, not good to me.
my girls 05 Jetta's gas pedal pivot's on the floor......I never did figure out why they did it, it's not like you feel any different of a response, they both work just as good....I press the gas in the Jetta and it moves, I press the gas in my truck and it moves, not too much to it
Go Premium, it builds character!
^^^ funny you say that.... I hear alot of people complain about the fly by wire systems, that they don't liek the thaught of the computer controlling the throttle not there foot... the 05 Jetta has the fly by wire
by the way post has nothign to do with you, it just caught my attention
Not sure when exactly they changed from the floor mounted pivot, my 69 corV8 was on the floor and so was my 63 corvair.
Maybe it was the same reason they moved dimmer switches (headlight bright switch for you intellectually challenged few, you know who you are), from the floor to the column.
Water build up caused premature rust, making them stick?
