Replacing lights in a factory Monsoon headunit?
Thursday, February 09, 2006 6:16 PM
Quite a few of the lights are out on my factory Monsoon headunit. It really annoys me because it's hard to see which buttons are which at night since so many of them are out. Is there any way to replace the lights or am I just $hit out of luck? I don't want to mess up the headunit though since I am not a big fan of audio and don't have the desire to replace the headunit any time soon. Any help is greatly appreciated.

try a junk yard, or ebay, it might just be easier to buy a new USED one.

I thought of that, but the problem you run into there is the same thing could have already happened to the "new" one or could happen down the road. I am gonna take a wild guess here and say I am probably just $hit out of luck . Thanks for the suggestion though .

J TO ENVY ---------> if you decide to change out your headunit, let me know, because i would be very interested in opening that up, and seeing if i can change the bulbs, and quite possibly the lights colors in that too.....
If not, it'll be a while, but i'll be doing that to mine anyways when i buy a new headunit ....

i sent you a pm carrie

i believe the radios have regular bulbs that are soldered to the circuit board

and the coloring is done from the face of the deck , its not done from the bulbs

I haven't had a chance to open it up yet, but I'm gonna try to get to them today. soldering some LED's should be easy. just need to find the P/N's for them.

done.

buzz, the pictures are rather large, so you'll be getting several emails, along with the how-to on how to do it. the pics aren't that great, but good enough to understand what's going on.

Actually, i really don't require a how to, i just wanted to get a rough idea of what had to be done to get it done........

thank you....

although, if you want, you could host the pics on photobucket

would anyone else like to see them? if so, I'll make another photobucket account so I don't use up too much bandwidth, resize and attempt to clean up the pics, and post the how-to

yvw. I'll get everything hosted and posted tomorrow. got a mad headache and don't feel like dealing with it tonight.
if you need a HU for practice or something, let me know. the one I have didn't work when I bought the car anyway.

@ El Fuego ( the unstable ): Thanks for the offer, but I think I am just going to stick with the Monsoon headunit for now.

@ rawkfist: Thanks for the apology, but I don't mind, especially if someone can figure out how to replace the lights .

1 thing i didnt mention is that if you replace the radio from another car , there is a 98% chance , that the radio will need to get programed for the VIN# of the new car
