Aftermarket seats / Seat belts
Friday, February 10, 2006 9:51 PM
Who those of you who have racing seats in their car, did any of you use you stock seat belts?, if so do they fits normal?

My seats go in as soon as I get my brackets from UPS but i am undecided if I should buy a four point harness or not. I really dont need the harness but will the stock seat belts suck now??

Thanks

You'd have to transfer your stock sliders over to use the stock seat belt. That's what I did for mine. There were a couple posts awhile back about racing seats and stock belts, might try searching around. There was a nice write up on how to use the stock sliders but I'm too lazy to find it right now.

I say get the harness. Personally I think it looks bad to have racing seats and have the stock seat belt, even more when the seats have the holes for the harnesses in the back.

Having a racing harness driving on the street isn't street legal. Its that way in Illinois anyways.

I used the aftermarket sliders and custom brackets. On my racing seats, the bolt on the seatbelt side that holds the seats together, was the EXACT same bolt used in holding in the stock seatbelt onto the stock brackets. All I did was remove the bolt, put on the seatbelt connector, and rebolt the seat back together. Bam, seatbelt connector is attached the seat, just like stock

Ill have to wait until my brackets come in before I see what I can do. I have NO welding skills so if something needs to be custom I will have to go to a local performance shop.

Yes, you can use stock belts with aftermarket seats. No, they won't look retarded. As far as harnesses, you can use them, but install them the correct way so if you're in a wreck you don't f*ck up your back. Either mount the shoulder straps to the rear seat area or mount a roll bar with a lateral harness bar and mount them there. Mounting them on the bolts that hold the seat to the floor will bring you much pain if you're in an accident. One of these days I'll post pics of my x-rays when I had back surgery. It's aperfect example of what not to do. Basically, make sure that wherever you mount the shoulder straps, there is a triangulation so that the force pulls you backwards in the seat and not downwards. Sparco makes a harness bar that makes a triangulation so that you can mount them on the floor. Check into it.

Is there an option that allows me to use my back seats?? I looked at the sparco harness bar but makes the backs seat unpractical.

you can mount them to the upper part of the LATCH system, BUT like Johnathan (Der Schlafwanderer) said if you are ever in a wreck it will @!#$ your back, neck and shoulders up. they need to be mounted above your shoulder to prevent your spine from being compressed in an accident. also the LATCH points will hold a child seat in place during a crash but i doubt they are strong enough to keep an adult in there seat.

i have mine mounted to the top LATCH points BUT they are just for show i use my stock seat belts on the street . Having a racing harness driving on the street isn't street legal and in a lot of places it is illegal to remove stock seat belts.

I think im gunna just have a shop make the Tenzo brackets fit the stock seat belts.

I dont want to put me or any one in my passenger seat at risk. So the stocks will stay.

Thanks.

good idea. to many people put in harnesses in the car and dont do them properly because they want to look cool. if you ever do go with harneses, get a roll bar so your actually safe. (something i need to still get) i ran my regular seatbelt harneses with my corbeaus for a while. of course i bought the seat brackets and it was a bolt right in application, no modifications needed to do with seat brackets or the belts themselves.
