Fiberglass Question
Thursday, February 16, 2006 6:26 PM
alright so I've attempted to make a sub box before. i lay down the tape, a little tin foil, and it's ready for the resin and glass. i get the first 2 layers down great. and since i don't want the smell of resin staying in my car, i took the mold out and added a few more layers of glass to it. the only problem was when i went to go test fit it back in my trunk a week or two later it didn't fit in their perfectly like it had before. any reason why this happened?

any way to prevent it? should i just complete the entire mold inside the car without taking it out? your help is much appreciated!!!

Hey, welcome to the org.
1. Fill out your registry. It helps us all sooner or later.

2. It probably warped when you took it out. From what i hear, you should do a couple layers in the car and let it dry. Then when it's dry, take it out and add more layers.

i usually leave my molds in the car for 24 to 48 hours even when your piece feels dry its still curing. fiberglass shrinks when it cures, the cheaper the fiberglass the more it will shrink. leave your piece in the car for at least a day or two if u can. and go ahead and lay down all the layers you need when u do it the first time.
