I searched and seem to find the answer but it is not working for me. I removed the gauge cluster to install my reverse glow gauges. I decided to put the cluster back in today. When I start up the car it starts perfect then immediately dies. The Anti-Theft light blinks and then stays on. I read you have to start the car and let it die and leave the key on for 15 minutes and it should work after that. I had no such luck. I also did it three times in a row but to no avail. Then I did it and sat in the car for almost 30 minutes doing other things while waiting and still no luck. Maybe I am not doing something right. I start the car it dies and I leave it. Am I suppose to turn the key back to Accessory and let sit for 15 minutes? Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong would be greatIey appreciated. I have a 96 Cavalier 2.2 5 speed. Thanks in advance.
I just read the FAQ and it says until the THEFT SYSTEM stops flashing. I just tried it and for me it only flashes a few times then remains solid. However when I go to start again it still doesn't work. I am lost.
Try closing all the doors and locking and unlocking the passenger door from the outside. I had to do this to a jeep I worked on one time. Prob won't work but worth a shot :/
i just went through a similar problem with my car when i replaced the wiring harness 2 weeks ago... 2 things to check immediatley, that you have BOTH connections to your cluster connected correctly, and make sure your wires that run to the odometer arent bare/cut while you were trying to pull them out.... that is what happened when i replaced the harness... damn ignition wires were stripped and not connected properly....took me and my roommate 15+ hours to find out what was going on.... since the theft light only blinks for (im guessing about 5-7 seconds) after you crank the car and it goes solid then its not the anti-theft...
P.S. i also have a 96 2.2 cav.
I feel like a dumbass. I think I only have the one connection plugged in and not both. I recall seeing a second plugin but not on the cluster. I just looked real quick. But yes it was doing the same thing you described flashes for 5-7 seconds then that's it. I will check it in the morning. I will keep you posted. I appreciate the input.
Update: I overlooked the plug over the odometer. It now runs like a champ. Thanks Black for the help on this one.
