Is it a motor or a switch (power windows)
Friday, April 07, 2006 10:50 AM
Greetings All,

I have a 97 Cavy with factory power windows. The driver's side power window will go down no problem.

Going back up is another issue. Sometimes it will go up about 2-3 inches and stop. Sometimes it will go up 6 inches and stop. If I wait 5 minutes, it will usually return the rest of the way. Occasionally I may have to wait another 2-3 minutes if it doesn't make it up the second time.

The switch was replaced by the previous owner, but I never asked him why he changed it. It seems like the window responds to the switch, which is why I think it's the motor

Any ideas?

I would say motor aswell. It's a cheap fix. You can buy a motor off or ebay for around $15.

Good, sharp, titanium coated drill bits, and you can drill the rivets out pretty easy... til they start spinnin, then it just pisses me off. And then attaching the new motor isn't very fun either. I used lock nuts (the nuts with the plastic inside them) and small bolts and it worked real well. If you have a pop rivet thing that would probably work better. Just rivet them bitches back in there. Oh and dont think you have the window glass propped up at the top and start mounting the motor, because it shakes the door and the glass falls... i bout lost an arm. Good thing it didn't break.
