I recently covered my armrest in my cavi with vinyl. Since then I have decided to take all of the vinyl off, since I am painting my door panels. After I am done painting the door panels, I am going to cover my arm rest's, headliner, sun visors, center console lid and my rear deck is going to be made custom by me and covered in suede. That is right everything that I mentioned here is going to be covered in BLA CK SUEDE.
Where did you get the material? I'm looking for some ;ight tan leather or suede, and can't find any.
Gotta keep on livin', L-I-V-I-N
damn. suede is kinda expensive. where r u getting it? i had mine in vynal, but just a few days in the heat n it was terrible. im redoing all of mine in black carpet. i think they sell it at pepboys. its not very thin, but it is thin enough to do what i want to do with it.

suede im using in my car came from yourautotrim.com. not the best suede on the market. i would have preferred alcantara but at around 50$ a yard its still expensive. syfabrics sounds like its selling some very cheap suede. one thing you have to look at is color fastness and the uv rating or durability in the sun. the cheap stuff will fade out on you quickly and look bad. half my interior is done in suede

Sndsgood that is true. But the suede that I am looking at is a velvet suede. Velvet holds up to the sunlight, and syfabrics is a fabric outlet, as in that is all that they sell is fabric. They also offer discounts on some orders depending on how much fabric you plan on buying. The more you buy the more of a discount you get. Not to mention here in Cali. we can tint the back windows as dark as we want to, the front can not be more than 30%. Also that is just one place that I am looking at, there is a National chain fabric store about 5 miles from my house, so I may just end up going there to get it so that I do not have to wait to get it and then put it in. I do not like waiting for anything. So, yes I am looking for a better suede at a decent price, I know that good suede is not going to be cheap at all, no form of leather is.
you can get the suede from a place called select products. It's the perfect suede to work with. When you apply the suede yoyu need to take the backing off of it or else it will seperate after a while especially if tension is put on it like around corners. You can go to LOWES an get 3M super 90 spray glue and it holds fine. I just did my door inserts and custom speaker pods for my Kicker SS componets and it works great make sure you spray scotch guard on it to to protect it and it will last alot longer. I tried vinyl first but the heat kills it very easily.
The only problem with this place is that 1) they barely speak english, and 2) they do not know how much it is, you have to come in and look at the rolls for the price. I just do not like going there to often, morons working in there. But mainly they have the super stretch suede.
Okay did some research here. I found out that on Jags they use super suede inside the cars. So we can use that in our cars as well. It is not near as expensive as normal suede, and since it is already being used in cars that is what I am going to use. I found it on www.laceandfabric.com That is what I am going to be getting to do my interior, if it fades I will then dye it back to black.
Okay, everyone that wants to do their interior in leather suede, I found it for $33.00 (on sale) per hide (11 square feet) , they also sell the glue for the hide. Here is the site: www.denverfabrics.com
check out keystonbros.com and you can find a dealer close to you maybe and give them a call their prices are resonable and the fabric is great... they make everything you can think of
I will be just going through denver fabrics instead of keyston bros. Denver fabrics has the real deal. Leather with the suede finish for $33 for 11 square feet.
Not to thread-jack, but how are you guys going about recovering your fabric door inserts?

Do not worry about thread jacking. You definately came into the right thread for that. I know that there is at least 3 of us in here that have done this. I origanally did mine in black vinyl, which I am now ripping off and going to be doing in Suede. The inserts are a PITA to get off of the door. First thing is that they are welded in place with plastic. You will need a dremel tool and a steady hand to get them out. You have to remove the door handle area as well in order to get the inserts off. Use small scress to put the door handle area back onto the door. The insert, I used a very liberal amount of hot glue inside the groove for the insert. Is what I did is just left the stock fabric on there so that there would be a tighter fit into the groove when replaced. Which is what I am going to do when I get this suede that I am dying to get.
if your doing vinyl if it's streches enough leave it out in the sun for 20 minutes till you can pull it easily, glue the insert and the vinyl let it sit for 2 minutes do it again and apply the vinyl in will strech very easliy and if you want staple the vinyl all the way around it didn' t just because Super90 glue is awsome. I then hot glued th einsert back on the fiberglassed it and it has never fallen of. I have just redone mine in black suede and it came out fine. A little trick for those vinyling don't laugh but when your done vinyling the insert put it in the freezer for about an hour and it stops the reaction in the glue hardens it and it won't peel. My buddy works at a bodyshop and gave me the tip.
i did mine in an allante... i used a plastic welder to melt the plastic welds... so i could remove the insert. Dont take the factory fabric off, b/c it will ruin the strenth of the insert and make the thing weak and tear it up...then i used upholstery adhesive and spreayed it right over factory fabric and wait until its almost dry... then start and the point and work your way into the curves using a heat gun to soften the vinyl.. over heating will wrikle the vinyl really bad so be careful. wrap over the edges and staple on the back with finishing staples aka small ones...then to reinstall there are the male parts on the insert that were stuck thru the door panel and then plastic welded... well i cleaned them up w/ sand paper... then you just have a male part a little smaller than you pinki finger. go ahead and put it thru the holes in the panel like normal then get some really short screws and fairly small washers, and center it on the peg and screw the insert back on. the washer hold it on nice and tight and that what you dont have to plastic weld it back together.... i tried many times... i did all this when i took wyotech upholstery... so i had all the tools to do this tee hee
Just my 02 cents but I had no problem getting my fabric off. Took like 2 mins to get the doors off then about 3 mins to remove the tabs and bolts.
I guess they made the fires easier then the cavi's.
Actually Soli yes they did make them different than the Cav.
Yup you got that one ^ So after doing up my doors like 5 times I think I finally got it just the way I want. I got me a set of 97 door panels. Ripped it in half by popping off the plastic welds. Then I put some real nice padding on the face of the lower door panel hit the edges with 180 grit sand paper to get the exact contour I wanted. Wrapped that up in vinyl put the two halfs back together and then started on the arm rests. And well They are turning out amazing. I put a seam right in the curve of the arm rest (broke my mom's sewing machine about 6 times but I got it down pat now) and I think it's going to look and feel great. Plus between all the padding, vinyl, and fat mat it's nice and quite.

Pics of the armrests when done Wink.
Also, are you putting your material over the original material or removing it?
