Ther is nothing inside the car I checked the whole car besides the trunk my mom checked that but my mom left our dads car window cracked and after work she smelled somthing rotten or dead and she didn't have the AC on or the vents on so is it possible there is a skunk or some dead animal that crawled under the car into the vents? Because it couldn't of got through the vents on the inside I would think that would be impossible but please help me guys!!!
And is it somthing that could of leaked under the hood?
Its a 2000 Chevy Cavaler.
There are no vents under the car. Maybe someone dropped a stink bomb through the cracked window? Give the carpet and seats a scrub and see if it goes away.

My car got a mystery smell last summer, but not nearly as bad as you're describing. One day I sprayed maybe 3 times with fabric freshner pretty heavily on the seats and carpet, even door panels where it is fabric. I also put dryer sheets under the seats and hung up a fresh peach air freshner. I tried to keep my windows open as much as possible too. That took care of it, although to this day I have no idea what caused it. It hasn't happened again either.

Well I can't find anything in the car but yeah it smells like somthing dead.
Find a place that sells Car-Brite stuff. and get the Cherry Terminator odor stuff..
it is in a cream liter bottle and says Cherry Terminator right on it and it works great, we had a girl drive in a car to our shop with a nasty smell in the back seat, she had a leak and it caused the smell.. vacummed it up really good fixed the leak, and just pour some of this stuff in the interior, put a lil more on the problem area then the rest, closed up the car for 10min or so then cracked open the windows for a while.. smelt great and even after the smell of cherries seemed to go away she said she has never had a problem with the bad smell coming back.. also i had a leak in my rear window and made my back seat and back floor smell like mold.. did the same thing in mine and never smelled mold again inside..
If its somthing dead in the engine compartment which I think the smell is coming from then would that leave a permanent smell inside the car?
if the dead animal was never removed I suppose the smell would never leave.

have the same problem( 2002 sunfire) but in my case smell starts when i open the sunroof and speed up to at least 50 mph
I've checked everything up to the dashboard, changed carpet and cleaned air conditioning. The smell is still there! It does smell like the rotten animal or a water that is like two tears old. Any ideas would be great
could be a bird stuck in front of your car rotting....

Can i make a suggestion? Open your hood and take a look. If there is something there that shouldnt be, you found it.

I've looked under the hood and also i have looked under the car while cleaning the the drain of air conditioning i have not found anything suspisious. i know for sure sure that i have killed couple of birds few where killed by the font bumper and few flwe under the car. I will give another try tomorrow

It definitely does! rotten eggs that's the best definition of the smell.
in a few hours i'll be takin' the car apart but i will find the crap that makes tha damn smell
also i got some edesinfecting spray that kills all types of odors, hope it'll help cause i'am very
close from burning this car to ashes!
Pull up the carpet retainers and feel under the carpet to see if the insulation underneath is wet.
I was pulling some carpet from a junk yard car to put in my car and I almost lost my stomach on the carpet while trying to take it out. It had rained and gotten the insulation wet and boy did that stuff smell.
Worth a shot.

Never had to deal with that myself, but I guess you need to remove and/or replace it.

Coolant which has gone bad can smell like rotten fish. The rotten egg smell is usually due to a bad cat converter.
Is the smell worse or better with the AC on?
