Theres a piece of plastic right in front of the windshield, on the inside, in my 96 cavalier. Im customizing the entire interior but can't figure out how to remove this piece so I can paint it. Any help will be greatly appreciated...
Thanks
You have to take out the entire bottom dash - have fun.
Man I love having a sunfire sometimes.

Put some newspaper over your windshield and tape off everything else, then paint.

Ban low-performance cars, not high-performance ones.
hmmm . . . . i rewrapped it in black leather cause my bash piece cracked in bout 3 places. U may wanna consider something more permanant. Id be mad if i painted it and then it cracked.
Whie it is out run a layer of glass over it and smooth it out..that way it wont crack as easy..just an idea..phil
ya I've done mine both ways painting in the car and I just recently took it out and fixed the crack and sprayed it.
It takes a little longer when you take the whole dash out but its not hard to take out at all and after doing it both ways I definetly recommend taking it out of the car.
what ever happened to those covers that were being worked on? this would be a perfect time for one...
i dont get why people dont take there dash right out and just fix it.. its an easy fix just a little time consuming
i painted my dash and it done the same thing. if i thake it out and paint it will do it agin whats the point
by pulling the dash wont this just recrack after awhile? i was just seeing fiberglassing the crack as a temporary fix. thats all.
well if you fiberglass it and keep your vents off the defrost in the winter wouldn't that put alot less stress on the middle?
I find if you take your time and see things thru the job looks good. Taking out a dash is a pain but 'ALL" the edges get sanded and the paint will stick better and look smoother with the (veins) sanded out as for F/G yeah i but two layers down. one full wrap-a-round and one on the top feathing off on the edge. my only mistake was of the glare from the shine off the dash . But i don't worry about my blower and heat or a/c bottom line ya can do a half ass job or put some time and money into it and do it right

The defroster vent right by the window, in the centre?
The thing is held in with like 1 bolt (9/32" hex head) and a couple of clips.
Take the bolt out and then pull the vent out.

He's not talking about the defroster vent. He's talking about the piece of plastic that goes parallel with the dash and the window. It has a nasty habit of making a lot of squeaky noise and cracking. When I bought my car used it was already cracked, luckily the car was still under warranty and I got it replaced for free. A cover for that piece would really be nice.

Does anyone have a picture? How can it be parallel to two different planes of reference (window and dash)?
its the piece that follows along the lines of the front windshield and the dash they both go the same way its oh about 4" wide and goes from a-pillar to a-pillar. if you put your hand on the defroster piece, now move your hand forward till you hit the window, your hand will be on top of the piece were talking about. not sure i can make it any more clear then that.
