I'm attempting to cover my console lid in some carbon fiber look vinyl fabric that I have (the same stuff I used to cover my sub box---see Cardomain page).
Has anyone covered their lid? Any advice on how to do it? I have already destroyed one piece of vinyl, but I have 2 more left that are large enough for this. Before I try anything else, I need some help though.
I'm having a hell of a time getting the vinyl to conform and look as smooth as it did in stock form. I know a lot of this is due to my inexperience with vinyl, but that is why I'm fishing for tips here.
Thanks guys
Try heating it up. Also, when you wrapping the sides, pull straight down. Then shape it.

Ban low-performance cars, not high-performance ones.
Some spray on contact cement will work good too. Spray it on kind of thick and tacky-like and let it sit for 5 minutes until it's sticky to your touch - kind of like pizza cheese texture.
If you have it, you could put some type of foam liner on there - 1/8" thick foam, the very light flexible stuff. It will help absorb some of the wrinkles that might come up. Apply a light dusting of spray cement on the foam liner (not too much on top of the foam).
Heat your vinyl up with a heat gun - or hair dryer, and stretch it over. It might be a plan to have some type of backing - that you can put some staples into from a staple gun so you have something to leverage from when you're pulling the vinyl.
It's going to be difficult to keep the wrinkles out if you haven't actually put any stitching into the piece to make it form fit the console lid, but I think it should be possible..
This is how I would imagine doing it (from experience in working as an upholsterer), not sure if it would work. The contact cement spray should help you with keeping the vinyl in place, but I don't know if it would be enough, which is why the backing might help.
Heat will help a lot. I didnt use any adhesive or anything when I did mine, I just stretched and stapled it. I used cf look vinyl on mine and I love it.
