window motor problems
Monday, July 10, 2006 7:39 PM
For the past......6 months my window has been messed up. Im not sure what the deal is but i think i need a new motor. Ive searched but i cant seem to find much.

when i try to roll the passenger window up it goes reaaaally slow then stops. I have to wait about a minute or two, maybe longer to roll it up some more, then again and again. Lately ive just been pulling it up with my hand, it makes it go a little quicker, but my ? is do i need a window motor? i dont see what else it would b, but just making sure before i buy one and it doesnt fix it, thanks

well i dont know about you guys, but i am not trying to put in a used motor that i will almost garrentied have problems with again down the road, so i will be installing new motors, i will spend the more money to save me trouble down the road. but a better question is does anyone have a write up to change them? i remember somone telling me i can put a screw threw the scissor part and make it alot easyer. but i dont want to eff anything up so let me know. thanks

mike

btw autozone has them for $39 brand new, and $44 for a reman, and it says the reman comes with the gear, it doesnt say anything about it on the new motor description.

I could do a write up if need be. I think someone already did a write-up but I can't remember. If nobody says anything about a write up I can do you one tomorrow, with pics.

If anything, the older motors seem to last much longer then the newer ones. My driverside door motor is from a pontiac 6000. And its a hell of alot quiter and quicker then the new fire motors.

I FOUND a solution/write-up. Someone had the same problem in the 3rd Gen forum and The Redneck posted the link. Thank him for the help.

Update.... I just installed my power window this past weekend. Make sure you have a full day of doing it(if this is your first time). It seemed hard at first b/c you dont know what you are doing but I found some good guides on here to help me out. The worst was drilling out the rivets... probably took 90% of the time. Wished I had a dremel, sounds like alot easier. Anyway, make sure you have corded drill, the battery one will die on you pretty quick b/c you have to drill 5 of the rivets out... takes quite awhile. remember to get all the tools b4 you start or you will going back and forth from the store. Like everyone says, instead putting rivets back, you can use 1/4x1/2 bolts & nuts. This will be easier on you next time you have to replace it. Thanks to all the people that gave me input on how to do this.

Here are couple links that helped me. Has pictures also.
