the only thing with putting a 00+ console in is that you have to deal with the front mounting position, I don't remember if there is something to help line up the front position or not as I didn't bother with my 99.

depends on how "solid" you want it, mine was loose but I didn't know ahead of time to pay attetion and it didn't bother me since it only shifted maybe an 1/8th of an inch when I pulled the e-brake

my 03 sunfire center console has duel cup holders and e-break boot cover but mines an automatic so ya! im sure a stick would have one in it but the thing that many of us j's hate about the cup holders is that they are do damn close to the center dash consol near your HVAC and your radio gets in the way when u have bigger size drinks their... Gl tho i know mines also has 2 more cup holder on the bottem of the center console box inbetween the seats. flip it open and has 2 more cup holders on the back of it

5 seconds to find another street...

any 2000+ cavalier with have teh dual cupholders up front, ebrake shift boot, and the bigger arm rest cubby esp if u remove the removable cup holder in it..

some 2000-2002 sunfires have them

and i think some 2003-2005 sunfires have them as well..

Just bringing this back from the dead since i am curious as well.

Is the console overall wider? i have been looking on ebay and found one from an '05, and it seems to be wider?
I also know i would need to buy the power window switch bracket, but other than that, how is the alignment of the components? (shifter, e-brake, storage compartment between seats)

All tips and/or tricks would be much appreciated!

it fits fine as long as you get the brackets that hold it on. i put a dual cupholder center console in my 99 cavalier using the existing brackets and it sits slightly angled. front points towards the drivers side slightly. if your using your stock brackets, the one under the coin tray/power window switch, doesn't line up at all, but the other two spots (storage compartment and front compartment) bolt up fine.

I'll correct some of the mis-information

Aside from colours, all 00-05 consoles are the same, essentially. The base is definitely the same, but the top is cut slightly larger in the 5-speed for the shifter boot. The 00+ console won't fit the 95-99 auto shifter properly... but if you're doing a boot anyway, it won't matter. You can remove the top of your auto shifter assembly if it doesn't fit, and you'll never see it. You could use an auto console and make your own boot (I did this on my old silver Z24) or a manual console and use the stock boot (I did this on my current DD, a 98 Z24 which now sports a 00+ console)

There are four bolts that hold the centre console in. Two are in the storage compartment, and they're the same for all years and all models. The middle one (under the power window switches, if you have them, or under the little storage spot if you don't) bolts into a bracket, which is different for 95-99 and 00-05. It unbolts and swaps easily. The front one won't work for you... with the automatic shifter being different between 95-99 and 00-05. You COULD swap the shifter to the newer style, but it's not worth it for one bolt. It'll just wiggle a bit. Or, you could drill a hole in the metal support and tap it for the bolt - that would work too. 5-speeds can swap the metal bracket, as it's part of a separate piece that bolts into the car underneath the shifter. (That's what I did for my current car... 98 5 speed... swapped all the brackets, and it's good).

The e-brake handle is different too. The 95-99 auto has the brush and plastic crap on the side of it, the 00-05 doesn't. I swapped mine for a 00 one. You might want to do that... but you have to swap the whole e-brake handle assembly.... so give the cable slack and remove it... it's a bit of a pain unless you grip it tight with vice-grips and "massage" it out with a big screwdriver

I hope that helps

Oh, I forgot... and I know someone will cite me for this

There's a second cigarette lighter/accessory outlet on the passenger side of the 02+ consoles... there won't be a wire for you to connect it to though. You could wire it in parallel with your existing cigarette lighter, or add a circuit if you're electrically-inclined.

and some of your info isn't necessarily true.

when i put my 00+ console in my 99 cavalier with the 3 speed auto I was able to use the front bolt, but it shifted the front of the console over slightly towards the driver. also i had no problem using my existing ebrake handle with the 00+ console. i don't understand whats different between them that would warrant swapping it out. Also the front bracket in my car was removeable it's sitting in my sunfire now to hold the 00+ console in place (since the 95-99 sunfire brackets aren't even near close).

Fair enough, I shared my experience with the swap, which I've done several times.

I think you'll find your console cracks after a few years... using the wrong placed bolt hole places undue stress on the rest of the plastic. Kinda like the mis-aligned dash on the 95-99 Cavaliers, most people here are familiar with that... I broke my first console that way too

yeah i did the swap also. to an 01 console out of a sunfire. mine fit fine. i also have th 03 auto. never had a problem. also my 96 E- Brake fit fine. to make the front of the console line up i just bent the front mount over a tad and it worked fine. never had problems. my auto shifter clears EVERYTHING fine. been in over a year and no cracking or anything.
