You can use a power sander, but hnad seems to work better. Sart off with 80 and go up to 400 or so. Clean the valve cover real good with water and soap, and let dry, then paint.

i'd start around 80 then go to 180 then around 220 then 400 then clean and paint. i used a mouse sander, it can get into the cracks but you will still have to do allot of it by hand to get in all the nooks and crannies, shouldnt take u more then an hour to have it ready for paint. i polished mine in about two hours or so.

Thnx so much everyoen for your input... just curious tho about my head gasket.. a buddy said that if i take the valve cover off i will need to replace the head gasket probly since the car has 91,000 miles on it.... IS THIS TRUE?

Theres a big difference in the valve cover gasket and the head gasket. I'd go ahead and replace the valve cover gasket anyways (they dont cost too much).

You said that the head gasket and valve cover gasket are two different things..... ( i know that) but then you said i should replace the valve gasket cover also.. does that mean to also replace teh gasket cover?>

You'll have to excuse my quick typing...i typed valve gasket cover instead of valve cover gasket. Thats what I was saying to replace.

i have a 2001 they have a rubber gasket that can be reused. ive had my valv cover off the car about 3-4 times now and i have over 95,000 miles on it and i dont have any issues of leaking or problems.
