I have 97 cav 2.2L. I'm taking off my dash so i can paint. Everything has gone smooth so far, but my question is. How do I take off my steering wheel, do I need a special tool, or am I missing something.
you need a wheel puller. There about 15 bucks at any auto store. You need to lock your steering wheel in place and pull the 15 amp fuse for the airbag. Then unscrew the two bolts on the back of the wheel that hold the airbag and horn in place.
Once its not attatched you need to unhook the two wires for your horn and the ground and the airbag sensor wire.
Then you use the wheel puller but make sure you mark the wheel for reinstallation. It's really quite easy.
If your pulling your whole dash out to paint it (which I recommend) Then you also need to take off the signals n both sides, all the vents and the passanger side airbag (make sure to unhook that sensor as well)
I just finished doing this its not hard at all. If you have any other questions email me I'll be more than happy to help.
Don't forget to unhook the negative cable of your battery before getting started. Some say it's overkill, but you wouldn't want the airbag to accidentally deploy would you. Better safe than sorry in my opinion.
Gotta keep on livin', L-I-V-I-N
Thank you very much, I now have the wheel off and everything is going as planed.
ya that would be good
I forgot about that completely when I took my wheel off..........both times
