How hard is to take the headliner out?
in my 89, it required a screwdriver and a few pulls. it's held up by velcro and this black sticky glue stuff. remove the panels around your doors and the back corner pieces. from the front windshield gently but solidly pull it down.
if you're junking it, you can just rip it down.... just make sure not to lose the velcro pieces.
^^ 3rd gens arent that easy
-you need a small Torx head, T20 i beleive is correct size(if not T20 its T15) and there are three torx screws on each sunvisor and remove them.
-next with some needlenose plyers go around the edges looking for plastic rivets. they have a round head bout inch and a half wide, then just take ur needlenose and pull on em till they come out.. (there is a tool i beleive somewhere that is made to remove em but eh, needle nose plyers always work for me.. there is about 6-8 of em
-Then remove the small hangers in the back put sticking a flat head in teh slot on them and prying the center out, then just pull the hanger out.
-Next, its better if u remove the rear side panels, atleast the top down enough so dont have to worry about bending the headliner and then the apillar panels, just pull those off. the rear side panels ull need to get a T50 i beleive torx head so u can remove the bolt for the top seatbelt hook, onces thats off u can pull up around the edges till the panels pops out enough to where u can get the headliner out.
-then depending on kinda of dome light u have..
**Single 1 bulb dome light, just unclip the bulb from the headlight
**Dome w/ Map lights, 3 bulbs in the headliner, just pull the headliner down and there is a nice sized white assembly there, its just taped to the headliner, pull off the tape and guide the dome down so it dont rip any wires.
i just did this at the junkyard tuesday so i dont think im forgettin anything.. if u have a sunroof ull need to pull off the weather stripping around on the headliner.
okay thanks sounds good because I awnna take my headliner down and wrap it in red seude i think it'll turn out great thanks for all the input ill go get my seude and do it on a day off thanks guys and ill have pic results when I am finish
my bad i forgot to mention the visors.
they're phillips in 2nd gens
Suede is a real PITA to work with. Take your time while working with it and it should turn out good for you. I just did the arm rest in mine, I took 10 minutes just putting the suede on them. My next suede project will be the headliner. What are the measurements on the headliner for the 4 door? That I still have to find out. I will have to check that in the morning.
GIT 'ER DONE!
ive done this before, i can almost quarantee you will regret it
but good luck
Yeah, maybe, but it will be worth it. Since it would look much better than stock.
