Did Sunfire GTs or any model of Sunfire come with a leather steering wheel stock? I've got a 2001 se with a rubber wheel that is starting to come apart and I would like to replace it with a leather one. I didn't know if anybody other than GM had a leather wheel kit available?
Oh -- and what's the level of difficulty on insatlling one? Do you have to mess with the airbag at all?

Well I found out how to remove the wheel:

Who carries steering wheel pullers? Or would it just be cheaper and safer to take it to a shop and have it done?
Chris
I didn't see anything on there
Chris
if you don't really know what you're doing i wouldn't pull a steering wheel, unless of course you know how to disable an airbag system the right way (not just pulling a fuse or cutting a wire) so you don't have any accidents....like having a bag go off in your face. it's not hard if you know what you're doing though.
also, the only leather steering wheel i know of that's stock is the toyota cav one. unfortunately i can't find the list of part numbers i used to have for toyota cav parts
i'm sure someone here has the p/n though
i forgot you have a sunfire....idk if the toyota cav will work for you or not. my bad.
they came in pretty much what ever they wanted to put them in. my 96 fire gt didnt come with one but my 98 did. also the 94-95 grand am leather wheel is the same, thats what i have in my 96. it might be easer to find one of those.
Thanks for the advice sykeeok -- I'll probably be heeding it when I find a new wheel
Chris
Chris, I've got a 2001 Sunfire wheel with the airbag, and It's got a wheelskins two tone charcoal and sand (light tan) cover on it. Looks nice. As far as other wheels, the airbags are interchangable from 2000 to 2002 between Sunfires and Cavaliers. This wheel will work for you, and the swap isn't hard if you take your time and follow the instructions from the Haynes manual. PM me if you are interested.
Gotta keep on livin', L-I-V-I-N
As for what had what steering wheel i'm more or less clue less but i'm sure you could find one, most Pontiacs had the same splines. To disable the air bag i've always known to just pull the fuse but wait close to an hour because as a safety precausion the circuit keeps a charge in case the car is hit shortly after operation. As for a steering wheel puller any auto parts store should have one. I Personally recommmend Consumer Auto Parts if your in New England! (gotta rep my work
)

That is what I was thinking....the Grand Ams and Grand Prixs sometimes had leather wheels...
My 04 GT has a leather wraped steering wheel.
Thats Him Officer The WICKED One.
