question about a custom dash
Sunday, November 19, 2006 1:53 AM
I am going to start glassing my dash soon, i know how to make a custom glassed pillar, but in the case of bob mull's evil z-24 how did they space out the guages and still keep everything centered on a different plain?? my only guess is cutting the top of the contour above the guage cluster and use styrofoam and cut the pvc pipe and stuff it in the styrofoam, but wont glass eat it??
thanks the for the suggestions and ideas!

jason

They probably removed the stock dash completely, built a mock up out of MDF or some light wieght thin wood, then fiberglassed over that. I don't think they used the stock dash at all.

i'd be very surprised if they used the stock dash, trying to go from memory but i dont remember any shape that followed along with the stock dashes controus.

for things like the gauges they either used pvc properly sized or they just cut the moutning points out of wood. main part of your shape is getting a good structure down. people will use wood, foam, dowel rods. whatever they can basically. you can use floral foam to shape, you can use expanding foam as well, it will just take longer since you have to spray it and wait for it to dry before you can start shaping.
