well, i wasnt sure what forum to put this is, so i figured id put it in interior since this is where most people who glass look, and may help someone down the line.
so my question is what is your preference in fiberglass brands?
im gonna try USComposites brand for the first time and im unsure which hardener to get. im thinking either the 3:1 ratio or 4:1 ratio
or do you guys use a different brand? maybe something u can pick up at carquest or the like?
ps - i pray no one replies with bondo brand!
just get whats cheap man..go to a paint supply store and you can buy 5gal of polyester resin for like $180....thats usually how i get mine..and thats canadien..but honestly how much hardener isnt abig deal..add less for slower curing and add more for faster within 15% of the recomended amount..phil
US Composites is my personal preference. However I've heard good things about West systems and Evercoat.
^^^whats cheap is not always whats good. im in no way new to glassing. just new to other brands.
but as far as the hardener, im asking due to cold winters here in buffalo. the 4:1 is the fast curing, 3:1 is medium. im looking for something that cures somewhat fast.
guess ill swing by the shop on lunch and see what they have to offer.

which USC do u use? 4:1 or 3:1 ? or even the 2:1?
I think your looking at their Epoxy Resins. Those are great for carbon fiber or something that you want to "see" through the resin. If that's what your looking for and you don't have much heat get at least the 3:1 (4:1 if you don't have any heat and can work fairly fast).
If your looking for something just to layup fiberglass cloth and then paint or cover with something I like their 700 Vinyl Ester Resin or the Surfboard Resin as they shrink less.

Where do yous guys usally get your fiberglassing stuff at?? I was gonan use the bondo brand but if its not reccomened then i wont..
I used the bondo brand for my f/g lip.. but in the shop we use the evercoat stuff.. the bondo brand had seemed to work alright for me.. my buddy who owns a audio shop can get 5gals of resin for 30bucks from us composites i beleive.. just gotta buy the hardener..so personally my preference is the evercoat cuz i used that the most.. but ive had no problem with the bondo brand either..
What exactly is the problem with the Bondo brand? I just patched up some minor holes with it, being it's easy to get locally, it's what I used.
