I was wondering if anyone could post pics of their short shifters installed...without the boot...I recently found out my reverse lights weren't working when getting an inspection and were having trouble finding out why, while trying to figure it out we noticed that I don't have to pull the reverse safty up anymore to get it to shift into reverse...We looked at it and we think we see where a part could be missing but not absolutly sure.
I have the b&m short shifter but I'm sure any pics would show me what I need to see
So if anyone could post pics it would help a LOT

dont have a pic right now but i cut off that piece that stops you from going into reverse on my short shifter and i have no problems so i dont think thats the problem. bu im no expert.
Like timler I'm no expert, but I have the B&M short shifter in my 03 sunfire and I can't remember any pieces that should effect your reverse lights. It only came with the shifter, a spring, knob, c clip and "dowel" if I remember right. Than the only thing that had to be hooked/unhooked was the shifter cables. Oh yeah and I don't really need to actually pull up in order to shift into reverse and I never cut mine off. From what I can see it seems like it's built backwards and doesn't go into the slot like it's supposed to. That little piece that is.
Here is your problem, its nothing under there, its the reverse backup switch on the trans, they are notorious for going bad, go to the dealer and get a new one, like $30 is all and its right behind the drivers side front wheel. easy to change.

Im still betting its the reverse backup switch. Mine went out at about 55K miles on my 04 cavy. i hear its a common problem. also my ignition control module went too about the same time.
Ok I'll check that out thanks Vincent, my car only has 17k on it though so that would have gone bad really fast...Were going to buy a test light probably tomorrow when I get paid again and see if its even getting power because I just had my car at best buy getting an alarm put in so they could have been messing around with some of the stuff
You let Best Buy install things into your car? I'm sorry, and I don't mean to bash or anything, but Best Buy car audio installers know squat about mobile electronics installation. Best Buy does not have a standard for their mobile electronics employees, just an FYI.

Mine just went out again. This will be the third one I've replaced. If you still haven't replaced yours by Sunday, I'll take pictures and post them for you when I do mine.

Ya I know best buy is never installing anything again, my bf and my dad both didn't know how to install an alarm though so that was basically my only choice and it was free but I ended up with a wreaked car and no reverse lights because of them. My alarm doesn't work right either I don't think I'll probably have to buy a new one by summer and go to car trends

If you ever want to have something installed again, take it to an ACTUAL car audio shop. Not a retail chain store. They have alot more experience, and actually quiz their employees to make sure they are up to date on specific things. The car audio shop I used to work at did atleast. Thats Soundwaves for ya though. Take care, and just take this as a "now I know better."

I'm interested in some pics as well. My reverse lights have been out for awhile now. I figured I'd check it out when I went to install my shifter this past weekend (sorry no pics). But I didn't see any switch there. Where is it at?
its behind the driver side wheel, you ahve to take off the fender liner and its hard to reach but you would know it if you saw it when you hold the new one in your hand. i dont have pics of mine.
